2016 sxf 450 engine oil recommendations

New to snowbikes this year and was wondering if a lighter weight oil should be ran in my bike for winter use. I run the motorex 10 60 in it for summer and heard the motorex is required for this bike

Search this forum and you'll find plenty of religious debates on oil. The short story is that you will probably want to run a 5w-40 or 0w-40 for easier starting and oil flow in the cold.

Timbersled is marketing a branded synthetic oil that is 0/40. I ran Motul 5/40 last year. The two are about the same price.

Arctic Cat 0-40 synthetic lost a crank seal on my 14 450sxf so oil pressure was down almost by 50 percent still lastest 15 hours before it mushroomed the head and figured out why it was running on and off good... For me that's signals some good oil..

I've been running a 5W-30 full syn and have been thinking of going Mobil 1 -0w-30 or 0w-40 in my motor-side as my bike has a separate sump for the engine and tranny so I don't need to worry about a clutch-safe oil and have the luxury of running whatever I want in the motor.

The 5w has been working fine as my bike starts right up with no trouble. That, and I have bottles of 5w-30 full synthetic oil that I had gotten on sale years ago and don't want to waste it. I'm going to change my oils tonight before I go riding tomorrow and 5W-30 is going in the motor and a 10w-40 in the x-mission, a Motul Transoil.

Thank tou all very much. I have heard all good about the rotella. Ktm dealer here told me only run motorex due to coated internal engine and trans components

If your bike sits out in zero degree weather then you go a start it you might have an issue... Or have to prewarm... That is where I have to use 0 weight in my ktm ..

I know for me I would need 0-40 or crank and crank and crank to get it to start ...

Just because the oil is Jaso ma rated doesn't mean it's good for the bike. Lots of ma rated oils contain friction modifiers just not as much as non ma rated oils( they simply meet specs). Personally I would use any synthetic 0w40 that is jaso ma and specifically states No Friction Modifiers added. IE: motorex, amsoil, yamalube, etc. Your clutch pack will thank you.
