Figure since my bike broke I would post up my vids from the year. Didn't get footage of the whole season, especially some of the good powder days, but I did order more gopro batteries, so I can hopefully video all day and not miss anything when I get there with a dead battery.

The Bike exceeded my expectations in hill climbing and deep powder performance. This was my first snow bike, and man it was fun.

What's up with your bike?

The top of the Y weld cracked all the way around the frame, right along the weld. I assume poor welding. But looking at possibly needing to fabricate a new Y and down tubes, which would also include new engine mounts and front pipe mount. Hope it would be possible to fix it but don't know yet. Probably improve a few things while I am at it.

Think it's possible to grind out the weld and redo it?
I have a guy that wants to repair it, but wants to rebuild a Y from scratch and install new cradle tubes. Assuming it will get pricy since that also means new motor mounts and pipe mount. Might have him build me new radiators too though.

Depends on who does it.

It should be grooved out to nothing and built back up.
Cleanliness is key.

I would be confident that if i fixed it it would be good.
A little far north though. :)

B&M fab could probably take care of it.
Or alternative impact.

I think something like the welds on the recovery points of this bumper I built.
There is 9 passes around each. :)
All tig @ 320 amps.
1/2" wall tube with 1" plate inserted.
Its holding up well.

Or these raft parts that are still crashing whitewater.

I'm using the yeti.
Have a good amount of time on it now. Only complaints are it is awful in crust, wants to turn the bars for you when it catches on the crust.
And then the steering angle on the trail is a bit shallow so it feels awkward to me, I need to learn to trust it more.
On good snow the yeti is light feeling, and easier for me to control the machine, gives me better maneuverability. But the TS ski is better in crust, because it wants to stay straight, so it doesn't pull you all over.

I know you are vested in the Honda frame but if you are going to redo the Y etc it might be just as easy and cost effective to switch to a KTM frame. You could use your forks etc with conversion bearings from All Balls. It sucks I know, a bunch of work either way. I'd probably just re-weld it with a fish plate and go till the end of the season.

If I'm remembering your build thread, the guy you had welding the Al was seriously lacking in the skills department. I would suggest finding a true welder that knows his stuff and getting his advice on how to repair.

Yep, after seeing the welds I was expecting something like this. He claimed to know what he was doing. Was my mistake for not searching harder at the time. I have a lot more info now, and know plenty of people I can ship it too, but still no one in driving distance I can trust.

I want to make it permanent obviously, not a temporary fix. But if I'm not happy with it I could do another conversion.

I've got a ktm framed yamaha banshee engine and am having similar problems with breaking motor mounts. The extreme vibrations from the banshee engine will find any weak point and create fatigue cracks. Likely your cr500 has aided in the failure of this weld that's also in a fairly high stress area. Was your engines rotating assembly statically balanced when you built it?

I'm assuming you are asking if the crank was balanced? no it wasn't, but it has the least vibes in the mid to upper rpm range, which is where I want it. As far as I know balancing the crank just changes the point at which runs the smoothest.

Yes, I'm assuming the vibrations aided, but it went from being smooth to vibrating like crazy, and I'm making the assumption that the weld started cracking which allowed it to vibrate worse. You can tell by looking closely at it the weld was very poor and didn't bond with the frame behind the weld.

Thanks, it wasn't too bad to jet, I did bend a needle clip at one point that made me run super rich, but was an easy fix once I realized what happened. I like how crisp it is now. I still have some black on the rear fender to wash off from when it was running poorly before.
