2016/17 Snowy Range snow conditions

Just left green rock. Maybe 2-4 inches of dust on top of concrete. Plenty of base still but it's rock hard. Put on 57 miles in search of it.

About 3" of fluffy snow. The rest is hard packed. Was snowing today as we were leaving but the wind was brutal

Just got back from 4 days riding the Snowies. It was the first time for me. Stayed at Albany but did not ride out of there except for a quick ride this morning. We trailered to Green Rock the first 3 days. The better snow we had found was West of the gap around trail NO. 3-4 inches of fresh over set up spring snow on Saturday and Sunday. An additional 3-4 inches of fresh snow Sunday night. Soft snow can be found in the trees but you have to look. We got in plenty of stucks and had a great time. They hauled off the Quealy hut on Monday. Snotel is indicating they were getting snow throughout the day today. We rode out of Albany this morning for a quick ride around Rob Roy and through Keystone. Conditions out of Albany were not good.

Does anyone want to do some boondocking and exploring new areas Friday, Saturday or Sunday? April 14-15-16.

Two of us are considering riding Saturday and Sunday and I could also ride Friday if someone wants to go that day.

Why so early Craig? Don't they usually shoot for Memorial Day?

No significant snow in a month, also the towns; Saratoga, encampment,& baggs all want the passes open asap every year.

The front range of Colorado loves the snowys and a lot of tourist $$'s drive over that mtn.

(just my opinion)

Yeah May 31st is the last day for off trail riding. But you can still ride the roads up there after May 31st if there is enough snow

They have started to open road. Watch out for dozer tracks, some are a foot deep. One area up from greenrock has been dozed to reduce depth and very rough so dont hit this with any speed.

Rode yesterday with coldfinger-

Had a great ride and covered a ton of ground.

I am shocked by how much snow has melted, 3-5 ft of depth in most spots. Creeks are starting to open up and rocks/logs are coming out. Wydot should have an easy time opening the road this year.
