2015 Timbersled Issues / Questions

Hey everyone. After picking up my 2015 ST kit (mounted on my 2010 YZ450f), I have noticed a few issues. I have been in contact with Timbersled, and am currently waiting on a response. However, I was wondering if anyone else has experienced the problems that I’m having.

1. Powder coating on sub frame (see picture)

There is a problem with the finish on the top tubes of the sub frame. It is like the powder coating did not adhere properly in a couple locations. It can be scratched off with just a fingernail.

2. Gaps between the inner face of the fork clamps and the spindle (see picture)

After assembly and my first ride, my front suspension was binding, and would not fully extend unless the forks were pulled on. I took apart the front end and noticed the gaps between the fork clamps and spindles (note; when the fork clamps were off, the forks moved freely). When everything is tightened, the clamps pull the forks together at the bottom, causing them to bind, and eventually wear out the fork seals.

3. Lots of play in front axle bushings (no pictures)

When I had the fork clamps off, the axle bushings did not seem to fit well with the spindle. The bushings fit tight around the axle, but there was lots of play (allowing side-to-side tilt) between the outside of the bushing and the inside of the spindle. Is this normal?

Has anyone else experienced any of these issues? Thanks in advance for any help. Cheers.

Sounds to me like you got the wrong fit kit. Make sure to confirm that when you talk to Timbersled. I'm assuming you don't have aftermarket forks.

As far as the powder coating goes.... that's a new one on me.

I had a issue spindle issue with a 2014 kit. Some how our spindle was bent... inspect the two upper ears of the spindle make sure they are straight. Let me know how far you get with getting warranty from them... I didnt.. Ive also seen fork clamps that are not perfect lately..

The spindle seems relatively straight. If anything, the upper ears are bent slightly outwards. In comparison, how was your spindle bent?

Ski Mount

I just installed my first kit, it's 2014 and I had a heck of a time with the front end, It would not line up at all, and I have gaps where you do and also a gap in the threaded rod on the front bolts.

I was noticing that the forks were also sitting low, and I think that I probably have some binding as well. I think it's probably from having to drill my own front holes, without a guide or jig, I had to keep wallowing those holes just to get the bolts to not cross thread.

I spend at least double the time installing the ski than I did for the track, is was very frustrating.
