Not ever having an electric start bike - little mistified.

Tried to start bike yesterday. Turned over but did not start. Changed over to the new battery I just got - now it won't turn over. All I hear is a "click, click" whenever starter button is pushed.

Battery is 100 per the charger. Checkdd all the connections. Black to neg. Red to Positive

Starter pooched?

I always kick the bike over for the first initial start of the day then it seems to start fine from there.

9 times out of 10 it starts first kick.

Barefooted, can you jump it with another battery? On occasion new batteries are defective. The wiring connections from battery to starter are critical. When dealing with low voltage (12 volts) the starting circuit will not pass the necessary amperage with a poor connection. Have you jumped the solenoid? That would eliminate the solenoid as the problem connection.

You can jump/bypass the solenoid by connecting the battery post to the starter post on the solenoid. Or you can run a jumper cable from the positive post on the battery to the terminal on the starter where the wire from the solenoid connects. If it cranks normal with a jumper that indicates a bad solenoid/connection in the circuit.

If you have a voltmeter you can connect it to the battery and monitor voltage when you attempt to start the bike. If the voltage drops very little, less than a volt, when pushing the button then there is a poor or no connection from battery to starter. If voltage drops below approximately 10 volts you either have a bad battery or excessive current draw from a defective starter.

If the old battery cranked better than the new one I would suspect the new battery. Many auto parts retailers will load test your battery to evaluate its' condition/output. Hope this helps.

I've got the same issue with my 14 300xcw. Just clicks on me, even with a brand new battery. It has only about 12 hrs on it and after reading up and calling around, it seems like the starter has crapped out. Pretty poor design and the only thing I dislike about the bike. Good thing it's easy to kick-start I guess.

Starter is very weak... I have a 13 and I am on my 2nd one with 450 hours... Staying up on disassembling and greasing along with trying the wet mod. They are only a warm start option for the most part... The grease really locks up in the cold weather... When I upped the compression and ported mine it is hit or miss. We have a beta 300 also the starter is perfect they should really go to a bathed in oil design like beta instead of half arsing it...

very weak starter on KTM/Husky 300, wet mod helps some

But I would caution even with the wetmod it has issues in really cold weather... You usually use a 5w suspension type oil so you might go to even a zero.. Either way they suck;)
