2014 vs 2016 mountain horse

I have found a used snow bike setup with a 2014 mountain horse long track kit. I am wondering how many updates have been done in the last 2 years and if you guys think it's worth holding out for a newer kit? I am new to the snow bike world, a couple buddies have them but have only been on the 2016 kits.

I have 14,15 & 16 st. kits. The biggest difference for me is the 16 has better suspension for jumping. It doesn't sidehill the same as my 14/15 kits. Seems to slide out a little more. I know the old LT's are not as popular as the St's. The new Lt's are pretty good.

The track is a HUGE upgrade for powder....

Thanks guys does anybody know if I can upgrade tracks in the future? The guy won't sell the bike without the kit, he will sell the kit without the bike and I need both.

I updated my 13 ST to the newer track and also bumped up to a 137" with some rail extensions. It can easily be done.

I think if you want to do it to a 15 you have to get the drop brackets though.

Same question...have a 13 ST with upgrades but wondering about the track. Which track and where to buy it?

Yes the pre 15 kits you could put a 2.5" track on without mods. I believe in 11 and 12 the drivers were different though so you'd have to upgrade if you had a pre 13 TS kit. 15 TS kits need a drop bracket. You can either get a Maxtrax from Yeti their first gen was known to have softer lugs that didn't work great in more set up or icy conditions hence they have the Maxtrax II. https://store.yetisnowmx.ca/collections/customer-appreciation-upgrades

Or you could buy the 2.5" convex from Timbersled. I couldn't find it on their website but I'm sure Ice Age can set you up.

I'd weigh your options though, upgrading just the track is pretty spendy. You might as well do the double row bearings too add in that and you'd be almost better off waiting for an LT 16 or 17 or buy a Raw if you dont mind a ST.

I think the 13 and 14 kits are good value now if they have been updated with the dual row bearings and have been maintained. Eventually you will need to replace the drive shaft when the end falls off but other than that they work OK. An older LT has a good sized footprint and will get you around. For all the slagging I've done on TS over the years their product is functional and generally won't leave you stranded in the bush but it does happen. It really comes down to budget, if you have the money buy newer but if you are tight on funds a 13 or 14 with the Raptor triple rate springs is a decent ride for the money. You should be able to get into one for 3000 to 3500 vs whatever for newer. The 15 kit is a bit of an oddball in my view kind of the worst of all worlds.
