2014 Big Fin

Just read the SnowTech story on the Hercules helix. Inventor claims the heat in the secondary comes from the spring designed to work on the reverseing 800, but doing double duty on the 4 stroke turbo. IF THIS IS TRUE, he claims dropping 100# of spring rate and WALA,cool clutches. Could it really be this easy? Also said his magic secondary is NOT cut for the white plastic ramps. Are these ramps not needed on the 4 stroke ? Lastly scuff or not on the BRAND NEW sheaves. Already disassemmbeled the big fin and cleaned up the excessive use of green loctite and machine oil. Can see evidence of grinding on the helix and sheave so the parts STILL ARE NOT REAL GOOD. WHAT say Ye ?

That helix is new. It will be tested soon.

A light scuff on the sheaves is good.

I have the hercules helix on my BF, a 44/40. The Oilite bushing is huge compared to stock. But mine is on the 1100, so I run the Dalton green/silver spring. At 16 psi, 94 grms primary weights, 100 lbs less spring pressure is a no no. On the 4-stroke you get the clunking sound from the rollers at take-off. Only got a few miles on it though, as I`ve gone through coolant tank issues (2 tanks cracked at the joints). And somehow my plastic welding skills are really not that good... Also got a 2014 primary with 911 Thunder cover again with Oilite bushing and belt to sheave adjuster, spring cup widened, buttons clearanced, shimmed and re-balanced by Smittyseng. Smooth as silk, no binding anywhere in the shift. My 2012 primary, although not one of the worst I`ve seen, was still a bit tight when approaching full shift.

The secondary still needs to have the sheaves machined like MVM in Cody does. I was out West with Dakota Performance and we did side by side tests with a cut clutch vs. non cut. Everything else the same with a lighter secondary spring. The one guy had a 2014 with a big bore and couldn't get the sled to hold consistent rpm. Jeff put the clutch off his sled on the big bore, which had the machined secondary. The clutches ran cooler and it would hold spot on rpm and not waver and had good back shift.
