2014 800 PRO RMK SHORT

Hey there, I havent done a search or even started to tear apart the sled. I dont have luck with searches and will be tearing down this week. It has a short I believe somewhere. Battery (new) wont stay charged and high beam wont work. Low beam yes but when high is flipped on, all lights (dash and head) go out.

Anyone have any issues like this before?

Merry Christmas!!!

I would start with a voltage regulator. That sounds like the most likely culprit to me. Start by starting the sled and testing the voltage at the battery. It should be something like 14.2 or 14.4 volts. If it is higher (like 16-17 volts) you have a bad regulator

I'd be checking that switch cluster with the high/low beam to see if you have a short in it. Find the plug that comes from it and check power lead to ground, then flip to high beam and check again and see what you get. Then move up the wiring harness to the hood and repeat.

I thought turning off the key isolated the battery though, so that is strange. Maybe the key switch has something wrong in it.

Didnt get a chance to work on it last night.

I agree with you that I would have thought that the key switch would stop all power from pulling but it doesnt seem to be doing the job.... Should be able to bust it open tonight and work on it.
