2013 rmk 800 cold start

Any tips appreciated. Just went out to start my 2013 rmk 800, only 150 miles. about 30-40 pull and not even a pop. it is about -15 today, so imagine cold may have something to do with it. started just fine about 20 days ago average temps.

thanks,

Best bet is to hope your rig starts so you can drive to town and get some beer. Then head home and enjoy the beer in the comfort of your recliner until it warms up a bit.

Put my first mile on my '14 yesterday morning. It was -6 outside. It took 4 pulls and if it didn't fire on 5, I was going to break out the starting fluid. Purists will disagree but starter fluid works great especially if you have a bad shoulder. There was just enough snow on the ground for me to urban snowmobile on my subdivision's streets. It was fun!

With electric start on my 22 year old snowthrower, it wouldn't fire up. A short squirt of starting fluid down the carb and I was able to start it up with 1 pull without needing the starter!

That is why I love my heated inclosed trailer so much. No matter how cold it is sleds are at 60-70 degrees when I get to the parking lot. I may be frozen ( or will be ), but sleds are warm.

My 2014 started on third pull and other half's 2013 started on fifth pull today. It is -25 right now but was -32 this morning so figure somewhere in between there for temperature.

it is last year gas, did run fuel conditioner through it when I put it up last spring. Also have some extra oil in gas for break in period, maybe. I will try adding some new gas today and see what happens, should be a little warmer too. thanks

My 11 and 12 pro's started yesterday easily in about 0 degrees... Started just like it was warm outside..

But 0 down to -15 is pretty huge.... I don't think it would be awesome to ride in that weather at all though

Good luck, but when your sled won't start because it's to cold maybe you should do as stated above and drink a beer inside where it's warm ( =

-15f isn't that cold, we ride at that temp a lot. It should start easily, strange that it didn't. All my sleds will start at even colder temps than that.

I agree it should start fine at that temp. I went ahead and put heat lamp under hood this morning and it started on 2nd pull. That being said, not always gonna have a heat source to bail me out if in the hills. I ran some fresh gas through today as well. Hoping the old gas and cold combination was the problem, and the fresh gas will help on the next cold start. thanks for the input.

I realize i'm on a completely different sled...('10 Assault), but that has happened to me about 3 times warm & cold weather. I have had to hold the throttle open, or had someone else hold it open while I pulled when that cold, to get it running. Not sure why it worked each time, but I just pretended I was on an old flooded out antique sled.

What he said.
Years ago I used to put a heat gun on the Y-pipe for about 15-20 minutes. But now the Pro's always start.

The cold weather shouldnt have anything to do with not starting mine starts in three pulls at -25 no problems. Something doesn't sound right. But i have heard of holding the throttle wide open with key turned off and pulling it over 5 to 10 times then try it.

I ride/start in -20 and colder every season. With the key off, I like to make my first two or three pulls slow with the throttle open to turn the cylinders over and load them with a bit of extra fuel and lubrication.

Then I turn the key and it starts on the 2nd pull usually

I've had some problems after super light deep days and cold nights with starting the morning after. 1/4 bottle of iso heat seems to be the cure. Warming the sled up also seems to be the cure if it doesn't start on one of them mornings without the heat... My guess is your old gas had some water in and froze causing it not to start.
