2013 assault, new to the forum.

First of all, hello to everybody! I just joined the forum a few minutes ago looking for friends and any helpful advice. My name is Jamie and I ride a 2013 155 Assault retro with the Powder track. (Not the stiff comp track) live in central Alberta and put around 1000 miles between revelstoke, Golden and Corbin last year on a bone stock sled with absolutely zero problems. Was so impressed with how the sled handles itself in the trees and really everywhere to be honest.

I've found a few things that I want to change like upgrading the springs and maybe revalving the stock shocks is all and I notice I'm at a very distinct power disadvantage compared to my brother on his '13 XM.

So here is what I'm doing, I ordered the PAR 13:1 head and HPS can combo, just got my Boyeson Rage Cage reed block assemblies the other day and i bolted up an SLP engine brace, opened up the air box and waiting for my PC V to get here. I have a line on a used SLP single pipe that I can probably get for next to nothing. I understand SLP says you cannot run the single pipe without using that specific can because of fitment issues but has anyone actually tried it? I would like to run the SLP single with my HPS can because I prefer the sound.

Next question, while I have everything tore apart to put all this in I'm going to be dropping in new pistons since I'm almost to that point anyway and it's a little peace of mind. And since I have the cylinders off anyway... Probably do a mild trail port and I've been considering doing a cylinder decomp elimination. Has anyone other then SLP been doing this as a performance mod? I see its on their stage 4 power package along with the porting ETC.

Also been reading about clipping the lugs on these tracks?? Can anybody shed some light on this for me?

P.S as a little end note I also dropped one tooth on my drive gear and while I had the chain case apart I noticed I had 4 cracks in the driven sprocket around the splined hole. Replaced with a team sprocket an feel much more confident in it now. I look forward to hearing from you guys! Thanks a lot!

Hey there my advice about the track would be to just change it if you got it in the budget. i like the extreme 2.5.its a noticeable difference the polaris powder track seems to trench.

.....

Thats wierd i have a camo extreme and my brother has the stock powder track.
Mine hooks up better on stiffer snow but his floats without trenching much better than mine.
Thats the reason folks trim their stock track, for better braking and set up snow hookup.

To the op.
search for your questions is pretty easy.

Well, I have done some research on the track trimming but I was looking for more opinions from personal experience, combined with the mods that I am doing and plan on doing to see if it would be beneficial at all for me.

The main question I had was wether the SLP single pipe can use a different can on it? SLP claims its a different can then the one they sell to use with factory pipe because they are mounted or shaped differently? Just wondering if anyone has personal experience.

That and the decomp mod of eliminating them and gaining some power. Is it worth or? Has it been done by anyone else other then SLP? How do they do it?

A horse a piece.

I'll apologize now if I am comparing apples to oranges here but.......
We did trim the tracks on our 2011 800 163" and our 2011 800 155" Pro-RMK.http://www.sears.com/craftsman-3-7-8-in-handi-cut/p-00937301000P Wiping the blades down with WD 40 or Kroil seems to help with the cutting. :face-icon-small-ton
I felt it did brake better especially down hill. And I thought it did run cooler, but you won't have an issue there with an assault. As far as hook up, a little better on hard pack but not better in fresh snow or climbing or side hilling. $.02
We did not do it to our 2013 Pro 155" and don't know if we will on the 2014 Pro 155" that's on the way.:face-icon-small-con
Welcome from Northern Minnesota. :face-icon-small-hap

Thanks for the info on the track cutting. I think for now ill be staying away from that unless I can pick up another track to sacrifice in case it doesn't work for me. I'll try to search out the SLP pipe and hps can again. Didnt easily turn anything up the first time.

I guess I just wasnt using the right combination of search words. Looks like it will fit fairly well at least on the 11-12's so ill give it a shot on mine too. It can't hurt to try.

Now if anyone has any further ideas about the decomp holes?

Hey Gixxermill, I hope you go to Swan Hills sometimes - that`s my N1 destination. I run this sled:

Nice looking sled! I actually haven't ever been up to the swan hills with my sled yet. I'd post a pick of my sleigh but I don't know how to yet, and I'm working off my iPhone. Brother and I have a day trip to revy mid November planned already and a week long trip to Crystals Grave creek cabins in Montana is in the work too. But I'm always looking for new places to ride!

Thanks :) So, you're mountain guy, which I am not :( My switchback with 136" / 1.25" track will just suck in mountains, and I am not very experienced rider.
On weekends, one day I go to trails with my wife, and 2nd day I go with my friends to deep snow (like swan hills or whitecourt). Sometimes we go nuts and go for night ditch banging right after work - darkness spices this ride up :)
But! there are always days when all your friends or having broken sleds, or cannot go, or having PMS, or... you know. So PM me in days like this, and/or I will PM you

Yes I'm definitely a mountain guy that's for sure. I do really like going for night time sled rides around the countryside tho. I live down around the red deer area but if you say there's decent snow up around whitecourt and slave then I definitely be willing to make the trip up there. My dad bought a '13 Rush pro r LE last year and he was able to make it around fairly well early season in revelstoke. You would just have to work twice as hard as everyone else!
