2013 120" Track Mod

The new 2013 track has no fiberglass rods, so it can flex and lean over easier on hardpack and maybe not throw you side to side as much by it's more flexible edges. Even though every rod is shorter, where the paddle is, the paddle itself is gussetting the track, keeping it stiff at every other pitch. What do you think of drilling a hole above the clip and slitting the paddle from the hole to the bottom of the nearest seration? This would allow the track to flex more where the paddle is. Thoughts? Looking for input before drilling every paddle.

i think i would rather c u just round the lug profile if you really need better trail handling.
i think the other method will potentially cause track to tear.

Track Tear?

That's why I drilled the hole. Same idea as drilling a hole in glass or sheet metal to stop crack and relieve stress.

Steep slopes

No problem with steep slopes or any off trail riding, still having issues with ugly trail manners.

Do you have the new ski? Maybe play with suspension a little to see if it improves trail riding. Have you picked Allen's brain about it?

I agree that either trim the profile of the outer lug or drilling & cutting to the hole should help for improved trail manners. I do wonder if there will besome sidehill performance loss in really hard spring snow on very steep sidehill?

I notched my stock 121 by cutting from the outside of the track to the second notch in the paddle for a tapered profile. I have not ridden it yet but will let you know how it works out this weekend.

personally, I think that drilling, and cutting your track will cause it to tear the lugs off eventually. With the new ski, the trail manners are much improved, and doable for me. And with the new ski it handles so much better in good snow that on the trails where I do most riding, there has been ample room on the edge to cruise in soft snow, and dont have to ride on rock hard snow.
