I thought I would share how the first ride went and ask some questions along the way.
5-6500 feet. Clicker 3. Suspension setup like the dealer gave it to me. Bars tipped back a bit.
We rode for about 4 miles. Some trail some climbing. 40 degree snow condition with about 12-18 inches of soft snow.
Sled ran great right out of the box with the clicker setting about right on. Held RPM solid on the climbs after I babied the belt in for the first 10 miles.
The skis worked great in deep snow and sidehilling in fresh snow. I did experience noticeable ski push when turning around on harder packed wet snow. So bad at one point that I had to turn downhill for a spot that was not so hard. This was my first concern that I hope doesnt irritate down the road. Ski feel on the trail at speed was great and over all the front end feels light, nimble, and predictable. It was much better than my 09 and noticably different than the wifes 10 146.
On the wooped out trails it was awesome compared to the 10 146 as well.
Over the previous XP's it feels softer without bagging and bottoming out.
The engine power during breakin was great. It felt quite a bit better than the 10 I was comparing side by side with.
I did notice that after a couple second pull on the throttle the clutches were slow to release.
Clutch temps were cool. I couldnt fry an egg on them like my 09.
My next comment which is one of my real concerns was the vibration. With throttle over 2500 RPM its totally smooth. At idle its totally smooth. However, as the engine winds down back to idle there is a pretty wicked vibration just before it gets back to idle. This is very evident when comparing to the wifes 10. Any ideas? I hate to mess with a stock setup that is otherwise fine. It pulls smooth everywhere. The vibraion shakes the whole sled. I could post a video if anyone would like to see what Im talking about.
The track climbed like a goat. It might have just been the snow but it let me get into tight spots really slow on a sidehill with ample power to get it pointed and power out. Question: does anyone elses sound like a D8 dozer when free wheeling down hill? I tighted the tack up a bit because the dealer had about 3 inches of hang below the hifax. Tightening only changes the sound a bit. It was so loose I think I fet it ratchet a couple times.
Overal the handling what exactly what I like. It no longer flops down flat when carving an "S". It simply rolls through the flat postion onto the other side. Even my wifes 10 tends to flop to the standing position before you can pull it back over to the other side. Obviously snow conditions affect this. Down the trail you can ride the rails as well. ( I could do this on an 09 and 10 as well but it was noted to be "impossible" by reviewers on anything but a 12).
Just writing while Im thinking so dont comment on my spelling please!
