2012 WR450F Ride Yesterday

We installed a 2013 short track kit on a 2012 WR450 to see how it would work. This bike is now fuel injected and uncorked, has a lot more power than the old WR. This bike has the throttle stop removed, GYT ECU, air box opened up, and an FMF slip on.

The bike worked really good except even hot, the enrichener must be used to start the bike almost every time which is a little frustrating. It kick starts fine no matter what, but e-start requires the enrichener. I tried turning the idle up but that didn't seem to matter. I'll plug the bike in today and see if I can richen the low end curcuit.

Other than that, the bike worked awesome and the new ski is amazing!!!!

Here is a video my friend Kilee Stevens took of our ride. This was her first time ever on a snowbike and railed it! Watch it in 1080 and enjoy!

your battery may not be quite strong enough to light it off without the enrichener. On other yamaha bikes I've had problems with the e start not lighting the engine off, but it would start with the kick starter. Also in the shop, it would start with the battery charger hooked up. I would imagine with efi, and all the mods, your battery may not be up to snuff...

It's very possible the battery and or starter just don't have the power to light this bike up. I have a brand new WR here and it's the same way. It will not start without the enrichener even at room temperature. Seems to be a common problem with this model from the research I've done. It's not a huge issue as it started immediately cold first thing in the morning then used the e-start the rest of the day with the enrichener. I'll keep messing with it as luckily we have a Dynojet dyno room and the equipment to play with it.

This is me!!! Thanks to Penco Power Products for demo for the day! And thank you to Steve for all the help and encouragement. Fun bike and even with the "hard start" I was still able to kick thee ol 450 over!!

Nice video. Looks like you got your barkbusters on backwards unless that is how you like them.

Nice vid & riding. Good to see another lady on a single ski too. My wife has just retired from 4 years on a 1-ski due to health issues, but she'd take a bike over a sled any day.

Your very welcome. Thanks for putting together the awesome video footage for our website. You did amazingly well for a first timer!

Good catch and yes they are. I had heated grips installed at the last minute and one of the guys in the shop put them on wrong and I didn't have time to fix them but will today.

wr rocks

your' styling on that wr good ride.

every gopro video is in the same terrrain ? nicely spaced trees, gentle ridge, lots of snow, still looking for that spot. Well ok, when the going is western the last thing I think of is helmet cam on.

My wr was rocking today, then go rocked, hour out, just getting into the video snow, hit a rock and broke one of Verlin Simmons best in half. Seen it before, right through three drilled holes in front of the mounts. Had pal along on sled, stole his ski, put broken simmons on his cat backwards several over the bar trips on the sled take'n turns till we found a packed road. Tough eat'n lunch riding back down the hiway in a warm pickup, not what I had in mind for today.

Nice to see some ladies riding, lent mine to a girl today and though she wasn't going to give it back!

Hey, that video didn't have very much of me in it!

Great to have you out! Hope you get one and join the crew!

Thanks mucho Rush for the tips! You were just moving around so much I didn't catch you in the camera! I will for surely be back out there getting some more seat time.

Awesome job Kilee! You did great! Great vid also, and All that on a first ride!!! Another couple of times and you will be tearing everything up!
Congrats

Me and the wife rented that day too and it was way easier for her than a sled , bought a bike n kit the next day and loving it

I have a 2012 as well with the same starting issue.

keep cranking up the Idle (note: this is counter clock wise opposite to a carb and will take several turn)

You have to have a real high Idle pretty much unusable in the dirt but OK on the snow-bike -- that made mine start almost every time hot or cold now.(I never use the enrichment anymore hot or cold)

Not a Ideal situation but better than no start.

I'll try that. I had turned the idle up quite a ways from a previous recomendation, but not high enough it sounds like. Thanks!

Just a quick update.

I've had this bike out twice on demos but hadn't had a chance to ride it myself until this weekend.

I will say i'm impressed. The new WR, uncorked, makes far more power than the old bike did. The old WR would pull 2nd gear but didn't have enough power to keep pulling 3rd in powder so you would have to down shift and rev the crap out of it or pirate tracks. The new bike has way more power and will pull 3rd in deep powder even with the new 2" track.

It still doesn't start as easy as I would like with the e-start but lights instantly with a kick. Also, I unplugged the headlight as it's always on when the ignition switch is on which helps save the battery. There's a lot of room to reach my hand in to plug it back in if needed.

This bike is a good choice for an all year around bike and worth looking at.
