I am going to install a tether on my 2012 and was just wondering where people are putting them and if anyone has pics of installation and tips on how to do it.

Thanks,
John

Put a cat tether on my 12 Pcm8, took 45 min. Shoulda took 20, but I'm an idiot. Follow cats Instructions. 2 beer job if u take ur time.
Open beer
Open tether pkg
Read instructions
Look at ur garage, straighten a couple things
Take off side panels, coweling under seat, remove gas cap and retaining but
Remark at how u wish u had a large gas tank opening like on the m's.
Remove upper coweling
Remove secondary
Open second beer
Do all electrical crap mentioned in instructions.
Drill hole, install tether(instructions tell u where but I would go where they have them on the 13's if I were u)
Put secondary back on
Put cowelings, side panels back on
Flip Cat the bird for not making fit and finish better on these things.
Open third beer(victory beer.....doesn't factor into the project...that's why I said 2 beer job)

This is a good location and I believe the same factory location on the HCR's.

Where did they mount the 2013'as tether?

not a fan of low tethers, or of the cat tether for a number of reasons.

Pro design tether.

Plugged into the key wires.

I'd run any brand tether before I hack a harness with those junk taps. Even worse you have to unhook that mess every time the hood has to come off.

Even if you don't like the rubber cap tether, buy the cat kit to get the factory connectors so no cutting or taping is required, and you don't have to screw with it to take the hood off.

FWIW steering mounted tethers are against ISR rules racers must mount them to the sled

All I have to do is pull two spade connectors... that's the only reason I did it that way. (that & I was out of gas in my soldering iron)

don't plan on racing them M8 any time soon though Krom... so I think I'll be good :D

Nex time though I'll take your advice & get a cat one just to get the connections better... but this works fine... not pretty, but that's up in the cave anyhow.

Has anyone else had trouble getting the wires from the factory harness to click into the harness that comes with the Arctic Cat tether? I just spent an hour out there messing with it and couldn't get them to go in far enough to click, so i put it back to factory, they clicked back into their original location just fine.

I had same issue. I'm not sure how to describe this so bear with me.

When u disconnect te main harness and remove the two wires u had to pry UP on the white piece inside the black connector piece, to release those wires. U have to pry up the white piece inside the black connector on the one u r putting the wires into as well. I did the same thing. Fought and fought and fought before I figured it out. As soon as i popped that white connector piece up, worked great! At least that's what it was for me. This step is not listed in the instructions.

Hope this helps.

when i put mine on i dont remember prying up on the new connector, it seems to me if it did not simply push in and click, i turned the plug or the wire over and tried again and it pushed in and clicked. the only thing i had to pry up was taking original(2) pins out of harness the rest was pushing the new pins into the harness, and the existing pins into the new harness.
take note of the orientation of the pins when you remove from stock harness, then you know which is correct way to go back into new harness...

I oriented the pins a it would not go in. For me would not work until I pryed up the connector on the new plug as well. Just what happened for me.

What do you mean, pry up on the connector? with the 1/16" round tool (paperclip) ? pictures would help :)
