2012 RMK 800, DET on dash

So, I have put 150 miles on my 2012 RMK 800 I just bought. 3 different times I had the DET come on, and retard the timing on me. Water temps were right at 125 all three times. And all three times it happened when I was moving along around 20-30 mph, and then got on it. 92 octane gas, no ethanol ( I was told) and the resistor plug was set for 10 percent ethanol. What might have caused the DET to activate? It didn't happen until after I had around 100 miles on it, I did see the rpm one time go to 8400. 68 gram weights in it, elevation 1300 feet.

Bu the way, LOVE this sled, coming from a 2007 RMK 600 155", can't believe how easy this 800 is to manuever.

That right there is CLASSIC for what this sled/motor does when not clutched correctly. Need more weight or a steeper helix. Not enough load on the motor in the midrange. This is where and why this motor loves either bellybuster or mtx weights. Loads the midrange alot harder and you will nver see your det light again. Oh ya, and it will actually pull harder too :face-icon-small-ton

Sounds like your over revving..

Are you smashing the flipper to the bar from 20-30mph on flat ground / trail?
If that's case most likely over rev and the gauge can't keep up to the true rpm.

Yes, that is exactly when it happened. I had a feeling that it was over revving in the mid range, I am thinking the 68's are to light for that elevation. Top end it is pulling 8200-8300, sure wish this has the analog tach needle. LOL. I will work on the clutching, like I said, I just got it, but love it so far.:face-icon-small-hap

I have a 62/42/36 helix here at home, will that be too steep? Backshifting too sluggish then?

Sled is a 155"

That is pefrect for the 155 at the elev. Then add 68gram slp mtx weights with 2 grams in the middle hole and 1 in the outer. That is how mosrt everyone here in Ak at 0-3000' is setup. Works great. Slp blue/pink primary spring with stock secondary spring. Add the delrin washers.
