2012 PRO RMK THROTTLE CABLE SERVICE BULLETIN

My dealer just called me to let me know Polaris issued a service bulletin regarding the throttle cable on 2012 RMK's.

Apparently some throttle cables have been cracking. I am bringing mine in next week to get replaced.

Is it a replacement or a inspection. mine is sitting at the dealer in the bag still!

Just wondering.
Thanks

Well, my dealer told me to look at it to make sure it isn't cracked. Being in MN, I told him that I obviously haven't ridden it other than around my house on the grass, so I doubt it's cracked. I wanted it replaced so it doesn't happen to me once we get snow and they are going to do that.

So to answer your question, it is an inspection, but if it's cracked or you complain, it's a replacement.

i just picked mine up last week. is there a date of mfg where this may have been fixed?

Mine is the Pro RMK. My advice would be to give your dealer a call. Maybe not all Pros/RMKs are affected, but mine was. Mine was delivered the beginning of November. They might have addressed the issue on sleds produced after that.

Thank you for the heads up. I am going to contact my dealer and see what he says. Anything of importance I will post, as I assume anybody else would.

This is only the RMK's because the Pro's got a new lighter weight throttle cable;)

I wonder if they cut holes in the cable to save a few ounces as in the snow flap?? :becky:

Cable issues

Affected 2012 Models:

- 600 Switchback
- 600 Switchback ES
- 800 Switchback PRO-R ES
- 800 Switchback PRO-R ADV. INTL
- 600 RMK 155 ES
- 800 PRO RMK 155

A production line quality check found some throttle cables that do not meet Polaris quality standards. Some throttle cable outer sheaths were found to be too thin giving the cable a ribbed appearance that could potentially crack creating a cosmetic quality issue. As a result, an inspection procedure was implemented on the production line and Polaris has inspected and repaired all remaining vehicles at the factory. To ensure that all affected models already in the field meet Polaris quality standards, please read the inspection procedure outlined on page two and inspect the throttle cables on affected models outlined in the table below. Replace the throttle cable only when the outer sheath fails inspection.

Inspection:
Remove side panels and hood. Inspect the entire length of the throttle cable from the throttle block to the throttle body in the engine compartment. Reference the accompanying photos of an acceptable (Photo A) and non-acceptable throttle cable (Photo B). Replace the throttle cable if either one of the following items is noted:

a) The outer sheath has the appearance similar to convoluted tubing (cable tubes ridges can be seen through sheath).
b) The outer sheath is cracked exposing the silver-colored cable tube underneath.

Repair Procedure:
Contact your local Polaris dealer and have them book your sled in for service. Reference service bulletin S-11-03.

Must have identified the problem before they shipped the 163s? My sled was 3-4 weeks late, and my dealer did mention they were late because they had to have bad throttle cables replaced. He told me this at the end of Oct.

Strange list of which sleds are included and which aren't. Is it just a timing issue, where only those sleds listed were produced during the time when these bad cables were in the factory?

SOME... NOT ALL.

Is it just a timing issue, where only those sleds listed were produced during the time when these bad cables were in the factory?

Exactly...

And not all of the models mentioned above have the issue.. hence the photo in the bulletin.

For the most part, there are no problems with majority of the cables on the 2012 MY.

Have a look, compare yours to the pic and you may save yourself a visit to the dealer.

i'm going to check mine this weekend, but like i said, mine was just delivered to the dealer right before thanksgiving. it is a pro 155.
