This is a short video of preseason testing of the Comp oil-less turbo that people have shown a concern about the turbo spooling up like a Garret turbo.
This sled has a stock front Arctic Cat yellow/white primary sping with 81 gram weights at 12lbs of boost. The OVS team with the Comp turbo team has come up with a winning combination of air flow for big power and quick spooling response. The Comp turbo gives the OVS team just one more advantage in the turbo industry for a clean and simple turbo kit. The turbo kit still utilizes the Tial turbine housing and 38mm Tial wastegate to make the quick responding turbo package for your 2012 Proclimb sled.

whats the specs of this turbo and what is a oilless system (sealed bearing???) How long is it expected to last.
 
The turbo is built for OVS to are specs. The Ovs specific Turbo that Comp manufactures also has a billet compressor wheel for high flow performance. The turbo center section needs to be serviced every 2 years to keep the bearing warranty valid. The warranty will cover the turbo center section if there is a failure as long as the servicing has been kept current.
 
Whats it cost to service and can we do it or do we have to send it in, would still like the specs to compare to the g turbo, or do they spec the same.
 
The cost to service the turbo is $100.00 every two years. The specs are were they need to be and it makes more power than the Garrett 2871 and that is against the OVS Tial 2871 with the high flow OVS compressor housing not a stock 2871. We have done are home work and testing to get the sizing correct or OVS would not be marketing the Comp Turbo.
 
Unlike the Garrett, with the Comp you can buy any little piece you want to rebuild the center section. The oil less runs ceramic bearings, water cooled only. It's a pretty trick set up. We set up two turbo kits with them last spring. I think with the Comp and the Borg Warner, you'll see a lot more people using turbos other than Garrett in the future.
 
Is there a cost advantage, price and price of current kits

I can't tell but in the video it sounds like there is a good full second or two before the power really comes on, or is that just because he didn't mash it right away. So just tell me this, does it come on faster and quicker than the other turbo kit you are currently using?

What about sizing, will it fit in the same spot as a 2871,2876 or is it built different. Does that finned tube really help.
 
The sled is coming out of the hole on full boost there is no lag it just takes the sled a second to hook up and get going. The sled spools just as fast as if not faster than the current Garrett turbo that we use. The charge tube is made of pre charger tube that dissipates heat out of the charge tube.
 
if its the smooth on the inside stuff as in the picture.. that kidna makes me laugh. as someone who has done a bit of flow simulations and heat transfer testing on intercooler designs, You would get more heat transfer out of a aluminum bends instead of the silicone elbows compared to this thing.

yes, it will do more then flat tubing... but gains you can only notice on computer simulations.


sorry OVS, personally i think you guys put together an awesome kit with some top notch parts, this just looks kinda tacky and silly

The fins externally dissipate the heat. Pretty simple physics that is is efficient. Look at many finned reservoirs, air cooled cylinder heads and such. Inside is smooth.

Not really that silly at all.

If you went to the hill and put one on, and test with a straight tube and that one I would doubt it would make 5* difference. But I don't know and it could do more, but I would have to see it proven to believe it.

Yes, it will do more then a flat internal/external tube, i have no arguements with that. the issue being, air has a low heat transfer coeffcient, a LARGE volume is moving through VERY quickly. and if you took a cross section of it, you have a large area with very little surface area, combine all of these factors and the ability for heat to be transfered out of the air is VERY minimal, there is almost no time and no contact for the transfer to occur.. again, tested a lot of interesting designs and its kind of depressing how little some things would do. this is why intercoolers have such a massive internal surface area!

also, you mentioned resivour's having fins, yes, its a good idea then as there is ample time for the heat transfer into the finned shell to take place.
