2011 YZ450 Heated Grips??

Anyone ran heated grips on their YZ? I'm wondering what type of grips and proper wiring? I talk to a guy at the dealer and they said I may have to somehow mount a battery.... There's got to be another way.

Any pictures on how you have generally set up your YZ for the snow would be great to see as well!

Thanks,

I ordered a set of ame grips for my 10 yz supposedly the fi yz stator will power the grips easy no need for a battery. If you go with the AME grips tell him your not running a battery and he'll get you the grips that wont shut off automatically when it sees a drop in voltage like his other grip kits that are used with a battery set-up.. As for wiring them in Im going to tie into the power wire off the tuner port connection

Great thanks, I'll look into those for sure.

Forgot to ask if the tuner will still be usable if you wire the grips into its power supply? Would kinda suck to lose that. Also did you just email the guy about which set up you want? Ill be ordering some right away. Thanks again.

I'd call him directly an tell him what you want. I can't recall his name but he"ll set you up.. As far as wiring goes the yammi tuner will still be usable your just tapping into the power wire and ground.. Maybe someone else knows of a different power source to tap into?

gripos direct answer

Got this email back from the A'ME rep today.

Because your YZ450 does not have a 12 volt battery, the only option you have is to use our heated grip that connect to a
lithium-ion polymer battery which we sell for Mountain Bike Grips & Road Bike Wraps or for those motorcycles etc. that don't run on a 12 volt battery.

The battery is a 11.1 volt, 4400 mTh polyer battery weighing 330 grams.

The inital draw (wattage) is 44 watts (3.7 amp) per pair as the grips warm up. Whet the set temperature is reached the wattage draw reduces to 22 watts or less.

There are 6 heat settings that range in heat output from 95 to 135 degrees.

These grips do not have a 3 minutes automatic shut off as do our regular powersport grips that run off a 12 volt battery.

so who has set these up and did you use their battery or?

I told him I wasnt running a battery an he said he'll sell me the non programable set up so grips arent looking for a drop in voltage an shut off etc.. Once bike is running you should have plenty of juice to run grips and Im running a cyclops led as well but separately

We are just about to add a multi function switch option that will allow a rider to use the Heated grips or the light and in the Yz's case, both should work fine.
