Ok, I remember an older thread about the difference in rails between a Pro and an Assault. Well I just so happen to have both, and so here is a pic of both skids side by side. Note: I didn't have the MMP Freedom Axle PCd yet, but now is lol
Anyways enjoy
Oh the Assault skid has a 2011 IQR center dual rate spring on it. FYI

So the previous thread would be incorrect that they use different rails for the assault and the RMK Skid. They both look to be the same to me, shouldn't be a problem to use either the upper or lower holes for the skid placement.

i was thinking the same thing, i know the shocks are different but i'm having a hard time seeing the differences.

maybe die hard poo can chime in and tell us if he can see a difference in the angle of the tips of the rails. I still say there is a difference and agree that the Assault skid can be moved up to RMK location but I would be learly to move the RMK skid down to the Assault spot.

LOOK at the title again..

2011 PRO... 155" all came with Straight Rails..

163" Came with Tipped Rails...

All 2012 All Straight!!! rails!

Dude. Both these rails are 155 I believe. The whole discussion from before was about the front of the rail as far as I can remember... Your comments are confusing me too...

yes those are scratchers. i believe all polaris mountain skids come with scratchers. actually the assault skid is mounted in the lower hole, increasing approach angle which can increase trenching. the assault skid needs to be move up to the rmk holes for the same approach angle. are the shocks mounted in the same holes on both? looks like it.

I guess I would agree with you, there is no mention above about 155 vs. 163 and different years. The post is reference a Pro RMK vs. the Pro Assault rails.

I was under the impression that there was a difference between the two (2012's) specifically the front geometry (front curve) and that the Assault rail was just a bit beefier having a window or two not cut out like on the RMK.

In fact this very topic has been discussed and has pics,

They are both 155's.

The thread you linked is a discussion about this same topic. But look through the whole thing and you will see there is not a side by side comparison of the two skids in question.

I believe they are the stock scrachers on both sleds.

Yes, Both are 155" skids.
The Pro is a 2011 155" skid with stock shocks revalved for my wife.
The Assault is a 2012 155" skid with stock shocks but with a different center spring and an 8" rear wheel kit.

Both have factory scratchers on them.

Yes there is a slight tip up on the Assault rail vs. the 2011 Pro rails. If you look at the side by side shot you can see a slight increase in angle right after it goes up. You can also see about 1/4" taller rail height on the Assault rail on the front shot. The 2011 Pro skid weighs 43lbs and the Assault skid with the heavier center spring, 8" wheels, MMP Freedom axle weighs 45.8lbs. About 3lbs diff. The rear shock also adds to the weight and the dual limiter strap.

Just posted it since I had both skids side by side...

Did that pro rmk skid come with the extra tension belt stock or did you add it yourself?

Polaris shows difference part numbers for the RMK and the Assault. I think that the double strap set up is on the Assault skid.

Early in the year back east we don't have much base to cover stumps and rocks which leads to potential front end damage if you drag the skis through big water bars and other areas that have unknown hazards under the snow. I use to set my Cat up so it could lift the skis easily to stay out of trouble. My 2011 Pro I keep in Utah I was riding last year is much harder to hang the skis in those situations which is fine out there since there is much more snow cover ing the hazards. I have a 2012 back East and was wondering if I could run the lower Assault holes on my new Pro RMK skid without stabbing issues? I was considering trying it with an anti stab axle just until we get some snow in the woods.

I like that the assualt has 2 limiter straps. wtf where they thinking with the single on the pro ? Idiots!72 I think everyone should add another to there pros.

the original assualt /pro rail discussion was more about the angle on the tip of the rail and the length at the tip could we get a side view of that area?

the rails are different part #s I do know that for sure.

Polaris removed certain items such as one limiter strap in stead of two to gives us a lighter sled which we all wanted. Now you call them idiots? You could of bought a new cat? I asked the cat dealer the other day if he was going on vacation he asked why I asked. My reply was Why else would you have a suit case strapped on the right side of your sled {ie muffler }?

look how its pulling at an angle and the lower shaft already looks tweeked a bit. Not good. not a good place to save ounces IMO.

lighter is good when done right. thats not it.

I would settle for more reliability.

That was about $ more than anything I would be willing to bet

Kind of hard to tell if that actually is at an angle due to the fact that we aren't looking straight at it in the pic. And if you think that it wasn't about weight, why would they have cut all the holes in the side of the tunnel, etc, etc in an effort to fight ounces? It might make you more comfortable to run an extra strap, and if so, feel free. No one stopping you...
