2011 PRO-RIDE 800 HP DYNO RESULTS ARE IN!

There is a cheap power booster for the 800 Rush very soon...I know that Casey is working on getting it quickly

Jim also gave an idea of the potential with a few mods...

Well I finally got bored enough to post this season. I will agree that the dyno numbers from a dyno don't tell the whole story. There are a number of issues that have an effect like the RPM that it is made at, the ability to run the clutching and drive train at the correct RPM. How broad and forgiving the power curve is and then the unknown like what does it really mean compared to the real world. But if you treat the dyno numbers like a scale of opportunity with the higher numbers having more potential then it is a good thing to have more. I would have loved to see Polaris perform better in these tests with engine hp that are more in line with the other big two. Does that mean on the snow they won't perform equal or better; no? But if all other things were the same then adding torque will add more potential which is a gain. So just because the numbers are lower doesn't mean the sled it a turd it just mean that it might have been even better and I could have lived with that. So when I read the report I got the following. There was enough fuel there to run good so where is the air and how do we get some inside that motor. It will be interesting to see how it responds to a pipe, air box mod or reeds, or porting. It would seem that if the restriction to pumping some air in that motor can be found there is a great opportunity to pump out a bit more power. I think that is where these dyno results have real value. They should help us find unused potential. They will never tell us how well it will perform in the real world. So I'm looking forward to what will really make this motor shine reliably. I hope there is a stage tunning in the furture that shows some great benifits to some reasonable mods. I'll let everyone else run with the term reasonable because I know i cant tie that one down.

Why worry so much about hp if you aren't going to calculate in the weight difference? Why won't Cat post their dry weights when everyone else does? I checked out the Pro yesterday at my local dealer and it's the hottest looking sled I've ever seen. If it makes you smile when you pull the trigger then you can't ask for anything more!

I wish it had 163 HP, but I sold my 2010 xp to get one knowing it would have less HP. Personally, I'll run the non-ethanol plug and that puts me close to what my 2010 xp had, and it is the handling that I'm excited about. I hope it is a great year!! If not I'll go back to a skidoo, but I think polaris may have a winner!

Gonna be some butt hurt kool-aid drinkers.

Its all about HP, unless your sled of choice doesnt have the most, then its not about the HP, it's about the handling. <whisper> 900 RMK

Popcorn anyone?

So if you have 147 horsepower available, in a chassis that is 120 lbs lighter than a stock 900 (152 hp, 550 dry), you got one HELL of a better power to weight ratio.

As has been mentioned, what does it matter what the dyno says if its the strongest FEELING 800 on the snow:face-icon-small-hap

It's gonna turn into one of those "my 143 hp sled beat your 163 hp sled"

I look forward to hearing more on this sleds performance this season:D

I can't wait until you are stuck in the trees and a pro rmk roars up and stops right above you to help dig your sorry a$$ out LOL

Time for my 2 cent, first off you pay all that money for a new sled you shouldn’t have to spend more money on a pipe just so it will put out as much power as the other new sleds.
I did jump from an xp to a pro this year and so far I’m very happy with the horse power. It would be nice if the number came in higher. The story is the new ETEC has 163 hp and the Pro is 147. The Pro is quick and pulles hard, it has good smooth power.
I have been riding with a buddy with a new ETEC 800 both sled are brand new and are not broke in, the doo needs to run 2 tanks of gas through it before the magic chip burns in. I don’t know if the pro has a magic chip, I have been running with the ethanol chip in mine so far. On the first ride in the little bit of soft snow we could find the doo went straight over the hill and the pro had to side hill around it to make it to the top. On a drag race up a different hill the pro did win and the road race was way too slick we never did get the sleds to hook up at the same time. So I would say the Polaris clutches are getting the hp to the track, the clutching on the pro with 1060;s in it is spot on it turned 8150 all day and the doo was typical, rpm’s all over the place.

I was pretty disappointed with the 143 hp. I was guessing more like 153hp.

On the bright side the power was very broad.

It made

141.2 hp @ 7900 RPM
143.2 hp @ 8300 RPM
142.4 hp @ 8400 RPM

With 93 oct ethanol fuel set for non ethanol

142.9 hp @ 7800 RPM
146.7 hp @ 8200 RPM
143.7 hp @ 8400 RPM

The Cat made between 157 hp and 163 hp depending what day and what
chassis. F chassis dynos a couple morehp.

The Crossfire they dyno'd on a "Bad day" (100 % humidity and lower barometric pressure made

153.7 hp @ 7600 RPM
156.9 hp @ 7900 RPM
152.3 hp @ 8100 RPM

Interestingly it made 164.1 hp with a D&D y pipe

F8 on a different day made 162.9 hp @ 7900 RPM

E tec made with 120 deg coolant

157 hp @ 7800 RPM
163.3 hp @ 8000 RPM
159.5 hp @ 8200 RPM

with 140 deg coolant made

159.1 hp @ 8100 RPM

The Cat and E tec should be pretty competitive. I guess the PRO is 20 lbs lighter then the M, but I don't know if that will overcome 10-20 hp deficit.

To be honest, I'd rather see them nail the weight and handling characteristics of a brand new chassis, along with good calibration and durability vs the past motor issues and 900 debacle. If the motor is crisp, clutched and delivers good power, owners should be happy. I fully expected them to be conservative and make the motor live. That means less HP unfortunately.

If they do all of the above and get competitive with Rotax in DI engine development, ie: a solid 160+HP motor, watch out! Polaris could be back on top in the West. I personally know lots of Polaris defectors who are in the "wait and see" mode this year waiting to see results.

Cat has a new chassis for 2012. We all know Doo is on schedule for something new as well. It never ends!:face-icon-small-ton

Let's see....Uuuhhhmmmm!
Here were my choices for this year.
1) Take my 01 RMK 800 and throw in a 1200 watercraft motor. Yeah, that's it! Major arm jerking Horsepower.

2) Take my 07 M8 and throw a hair dryer on it. Better chassis than the 01. This could be the ticket. But I also looked at all of the other things that I needed to do to it to bring it up to modern standards. Alot of money.

3) Stick with the same power range as the M8 and get a Pro. Best handling sled on the snow. As the Big B says...."most flickable" Ha Ha

Guess which way I went. Oh and by the way, I have not been able to ride my new sled yet, but was lucky enough to ride one in April, back to back with a 2010 M8 (163 hp). It pretty much kept right up with it.

We just need some snow, and soon:smow::smow::smow::smow::smow:

i work at a polaris arctic cat dealership and we took the new pro and new cat up and for less horsepower the pro kicked the cats a#$ in evry condition, its not all about horsepower its about power to weight.

in all my days, i have never seen a motor perform poorly on the dyno and work great on the hill compared to the others...

i think you guys need to get on polaris case, and make them do rite...polaris is buying reliabity and your cost, been that far under powered, it should never blow up...

you have a well renowed dyno shop doing the results, and with this big of a difference over the doo/cat on the same dyno

its sad with almost 20hp less, how can this sled perform, the few pounds its lighter is not gonna make it up

i feel for you guys

Fredw just let it go. no one gives a sh-- about your opinion. I could have bought any sled on the market. i knew that polaris's hp numbers weren't going to beat the others. Thats not why i buy a sled. And also the old doos werent kicken my *** (08 d8) so whats to say the new one will. Also i had friends that compared the 10 m8 the pro last spring and said they were very comparable. And the cats can out run the doos so what does thaat say. Also skidoo's version of fuel injection is yet to be seen.

compare what ? The 2011 doos arent going do any better than the 2010 and the 2010 didnt rock my 08 d8 so who are you to say that a lighter polaris cant be competitive.

I love all the "horse power doesn't matter and quit stirring the pot" if it dynoed
160+ you poo guys wouldn't keep your mouths shut. You would be on the cat and doo forums "stirring the pot" I just hope this motor stays together.

not sure if you know, but the etec did close to 15more hp than last years xp, and all the 800 dragons we came accross did not stand out last year, i got some vids of them performing

i have never been on the doo and cat forums. I just love the guys like fredw that are trying to convince me that my sled is a piece of crap and cant be competitive. I think all the brands put out good sleds so I am done with a conversation that wont go anywhere.
