2011 PRO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. NEED ADVICE!

We have a 2011 Pro RMK with about 1500 miles, bone stock.
Yesterday while riding on the trail at about 60 MPH. the engine cut out for a brief time almost ejecting the rider. The check engine light came on and is on all the time now.
It seems to be running properly now, but what gives? I don't want to ride it until I know what the problem is.
I am looking at my owners manual, and under Diagnostic Codes and it list several codes under SPN, and FMI. Where can I get a meter , or device that will give me a code on what may be faulty. And where would this device plug into.
Thanks in advance!

I didnt know it cut the motor out for a sec? TC just said the light came on. My dragon used to cut the motor out and make me lurch forward, remember? It was either the overly sensetaive DET sesnor killing the motor to protect it, or else TC hit the rev limiter. But we wernt going wide open yesterday.... hmmm

With the motor running AND the check engine light on, set the parking brake, then punch the select button on the display. It will then spit out the codes for you right there on the dislpay. My guess you see a 173,3 Egt sensor, high voltage. Mine did this last week as did my riding buddy. We both lost them on the same ride.

Hey that's good to know. Missed that in the manual

Thanks! I will try that. I'll post the outcome. :camera:

Yes, the directions are in your manual on the page before it lists what the codes mean. You have to start it without the brake set, then set it. The book will also tell you how to check for multiple codes. It will only read active codes, meaning your engine light must be light. If it's not on when you try to pull the code from when you saw a light earlier in the day, it will not pull those codes. At that point, you need to see a dealer and have them pull it with digital wrench, or wait for it to come back on.

You were a 100% correct! It did display an error code, 173 3

Exhaust Temperature Sensor, VOLTAGE TOO HIGH

Does this mean I replace the ETS, or do I replace something that is feeding (the ETS) too much voltage.:light:
Hey, theultrarider, how does one get their hands on a digital wrench.
I goggled it, and Polaris web site came up.

My light will also pop on now and then!! Sled is still running good and if I turn sled off and restart it is gone!!!It has gone off a couple times with out turning sled off!! Problem I have is sled is sitting out in west yellowstone and when we get out there in a couple weeks I am planning on just riding since it is running good not to worried about light coming on or do you guy's think I should not ride it before I get it looked at? I have about 2400 miles on it and it has warrenty yet!!!
Thanks Darren

I would call the dealer out there and see what they say. They probably see this all the time. Ask about parts in stock. It would suck to go all that way just to sit in a motel room.:face-icon-small-fro

Problem I have sled is now under about 4 feet of snow pretty sure that polaris west will not go dig it out to service it!!! It has came on and off for the last couple hundred miles, so I think I will roll the dice and just ride it. Heading out over expo so I dought that they would be able to look at it when I get out there and if it doesn't run there will be a ton going on in town!!

Good deal. Easy fix. My dealer warrantied mine as I have the 4 year bumper to bumper on mine. Yes, it is just a matter of changing out the pipe sensor.

As for digital wrench, that is a dealer only thing. Must own a dealership to get your hands on that, and is very well guarded.

Mine had also flashed intermintantly before staying on long enough to pull the code. I would give odds yours is a pipe temp sensor also. In your case with the road trip/vacation involved, I would just buy a sensor at home and bring with you just in case. I believe the sensor is about $150. Not bad to save a trip. Mine still ran decent just down about 300r's and running flat. Have been with a couple others though that ran like crap as the sensors went out. I'd have to ruin a trip. and if they have a busy weekend while you are out there, the local mt poo shop could run out of stock. Easy to to change them out. Just make sure to torque them to spec when installing them. I'm told that is very critical. I forget the exact spec off the top of my head and don't want to be misquoted with bad info sorry.

And one more thing, when I changed mine out myself at home, My check engine light DID NOT go away after changing that out until I actually went out and got it up to temp and rode it. It went away after 1/2 mile and havent seen it since. The shops can erase with digital wrench, but we can not.
