Hey guy's thinking of jumping ship and buying an my2011 m series sled. What are some of the common problems of the M. series. I've read about the steering post breaking and bulkheads cracking. Are there any other issues the seem to pop up with hard use. Also how do the control arms hold up. I have a tendency to hit alot of stuff. Are the sacraficial like the polaris ones. Where just the arms will bend and not the bulkhead.Looking forward to hearing your thoughts. Thanks In advance

Excellent sleds for performance and reliability. The diamond drive is suspect, but a bearing replacement addresses this; maybe Cat will for 2011? I think the chasis is as sufficiently strong to absorb some abuse if you have realistic expectations for how hard you can hit the obstacles you are concerned about. I have owned two without a single problem on either. The biggest problem is work gets in the way of riding.

Steering post and Bulk head

I only see this on such a small percent of the sled I would not consider it an issue. Like maybe 1%

The only issue with the 2010 is the primary springs breaking . after first season replace DD bearings with better bearings and have fun and like they said just buy a hold over 2010 save some $$$ unless you can not live with out the sublime.

The only problem I have had was I stabbed my track but other than that it has run flawless. (antistab kits are relatively cheap) I ran an XP before this and the M's performance is second to none in my opinion. Go for a 2010 left over and save yourself some cash, no point on buying the exact same sled in a different color for a few grand more.....unless you feel that the new colors are worth the few thousand dollars extra. LOL!!

Bar none.....

The 2010 M8 is the best out of the crate sled that I have purchased in 36 years of mountain riding. Also my first Cat, ever! I love this sled. Is it perfect? No, but close as a true boondocker and mountain sled can get. All I have done is clutched it and re-valved all four shocks. You will not be disappointed.

Took out the A-arm on two sled this year. Hit a rock pretty hard and Sheared off the bolts. No problem bought a few bolts and some new a-arms and I was good to go on both of them. The Bulkhead it tough.

Yes, get a 2010 M8 and you'll be one happy guy! There are some around for well under $10,000. I personally know of three.

There a few things you can do to improve the sled but, they are pretty darn bullet proof. Buy the Cat goggle holder that mounts under the hood. It's wonderful.

The adjustable bars are great but, they can use a BDX bushing kit to tighten the play up a bit.

The stock skis work but aren't the best. Buy some Powder Pros and you'll be amazed.

Replace the single row bearing inside the diamond drive with a double row bearing.

If you get a sno pro. Send your shocks to Andy Youngstrom at Gasshockrepair.com for a revalve job and it will be the best $100-$150 you can spend on the sled.

Buy some side venting. These sleds really like to breath.

Buy a SLP single pipe kit for the 2010-2011 M8 and you lose 18.5 lbs and will be at very close to 170 very reliable hp.

Of course there are skid plates (I prefer the huge Cat one that covers the bottom of the clutches). It's cheap insurance.

There's the Geo mod for the skid, there are torsional spring setups for the secondary, there are AMP and other bar risers, there are lightweight A arms, etc.

Best of luck! You'll love the sled.
