2011 down. Looks like the old Polaris piston rock!

My 11 has been such a good sled that I wouldn't trade it for anything..... Till now!

Looking through the ev hole, looks like the top of the piston has clipped the ev port.

Sled has 1300 miles. I have been through the dragon bs (3 complete motors), and it looks like their band aids last almost long enough to clear warranty, not this time ;). It's going to cost you again Polaris.

Polaris, I just wanted to thank you for all of the freezing rides out of the back county being towed by another sled. Why do I buy your shi!??

Cause when they run they are the best damn mountain sled on the planet:)

Oh, and they are so damn fun to ride...when they run that is:)

I think that alot of stuff is only built to last as long as the warranty. Applys to most vehicles as well. That is why I dont own a deisel truck for 5 minutes longer than the warranty lasts. Buy a Yamaha, and you dont have to worry.

I here ya dub, I will be buying a ski doo next year. Since 09 i've gone threw 7 motors (4 on a 09 assault, 1 on a 10 assault and 2 on my 11 pro) not to mention voltage regulators, ecu's and premature track failure. I know all sleds have there failures but continuing to neglect the motor problem is unacceptable. This last motor I put rk tek pistons in so hopefully it will help with reliabilty. Sorry Polaris but your loosing a customer.

What is your guys maintanence schedule like? I have 2500+ miles on my '11 and only have done a top end. Opened that crank and it looked good but did bearings while in there...I might have lost injectors this weekend, but not a motor yet...knock on wood!

sorry for your loss, or anybody elses' for that matter....but a sled without an engine, doesn't handle all that well, in fact it's a heavy hunk of crap...my dragon engine went 350 miles before it crapped out, replaced under warranty, i sold it immediately, best move i could have made...so i waited for poo to get the engine figured out, but they didn't, just kept putting bandaids on the turd to get them out of warranty, but it's still the same...but with fewer sleds accumulating miles due to the drive shaft and rubber band problems, they won't have as many engine failures, problem solved, no engine warranty claims this year....and next year, people will buy more poos 'cause their engines were good this year????? not.......

Sorry to hear... Too bad they can't get these things more reliable... they sure would sell a lot more of them. The problem I see with Polaris is that they have a lot of GREAT IDEAS... the problem is their EXECUTION of those ideas. Making stuff lightweight is good, but not at the expense of durability or functionality... if they could figure out which is more important in that balance they would be in a lot better relationship with their customer base.

Hopefully they can get you back on the snow soon:beer;

The big question is what to do now....? Get the engine fixed under extended warranty and wait for it again, or pay $$ out of my pocket to fix it right?

I have a 2012 switchback 144 with 250 total miles on it, no problems with it yet. What is the proper fix? I don't do alot of rideing so i can have it down for a bit but don't want problems when I go out on a week trip.(Cooke Jan 7th to the 12th) Run it and deal with polaris or go to aftermarket?

Stick it to poo get the new engine and than put in a kit there are a few to chose from .
This will also be my last polaris .I rode with 3 cats the other day one had rkt port and drop in kit the other two just came out of storage and were grass dragged this summer . We came home early due to my sled going into det mode all day .
They firing up and away they go I set there and wait to get up to temp than I can take off. Then going down the trail I am stopping putting snow on my tunnel we where in 6" to 1' of new snow I was going slow because it kept going into det .
The money I saved over the summer for riding got spent on fixing poo pos engine and having to have the clutch rebalanced since they can not seem to get it right.
So I say stick Polaris with the bill and when your warrant is starting to run out trade it in.

that sucks !
i guess i'm screwed because i don't wanna ride any other chassis:face-icon-small-dis

i know this doesn't help:sorry:

but my buddies must be some idiots because they lose motors every year
polaris /skidoo ??? (no cats here)
i hear alot of talk of reliability but i just don't see it when it comes to snowmobiles they are the worst toy ever ! but we love to ride so much that we do it anyway
my buddies son lost his rev motor christmas eve 500 miles on new top end !
you can't apply logic to sleds i guess :face-icon-small-dis

oh i say warranty it its $50 right? why not do all the oil stuff(tank, oiler) and ride it sell it next year and buy something else or don't ha ha
good luck man

Yeah, I got 2 seasons of warranty left, might as well suck'em dry (even though it's not Polaris it's contracted).

They are going to crack it fully open today, I will know more by this afternoon hopefully. I figure it will probably cost me $50.00 plus a new pistion. My guess is that they will try and just warranty the one and I will have to purchase the other for piece of mind...

I don't know if the Polaris clutch is any worse than any other brand. People just get them balanced to make them better. I sent mine in for a balance last year when it was brand new. My buddy did not. We have the same sled and I didn't tell him about it on purpose. I really see no difference. Mine probably will be a bit smoother but LIke I said I see no difference. Ski-doo has crappy clutching.

As far as the motor. If you really want it done right go to Indy Dan and get it long rodded.
