Thought I'd start since december 1 is getting close, hows the snow stacking up for those who have been out setting up camps?

i wish i had a camp too set up just stuck with day trips... im going either chirstmas eve or boxing day

Was out Sat/Sun it poured rain all night saturday and half of today. Most of the snow where our camp is is gone now.

Heard there was a big wind storm in Sherman Meadows that damaged about 7 camps even rolled some trailers over. As for snow its starting to setup ok about 3 feet at the boarder creeks still running and flood water on Kakwa Lake.

so anyone whos been up to kakwa recently is it worth heading up with a new sled yet or should i try and stay patient and wait a little longer? i read on the swan city website that its groomed into bc now but the creeks are still open.

Yup

It is groomed, creeks are open. Friends of mine went in with camp yesterday. They would have rode today and they'll ride tomorrow and Sunday. As far as snow conditions.....?

Rode Kakwa today.

Rained on us during way in, fortunately turned to snow at lake. Snowed 2ft of heavy wet snow while breaking trail to LaGlace Lake, about 3ft of fresh snow in the general area.

On way back out, trail around Stinking Springs for about 3 miles is slush on top of dirt.

Hopefully we get some cold weather soon.

I want to head out to the Pine Pass tomorrow or Thursday, PK just posted another 17cm of new snow. Anybody interested in going, send me a message, I have room for another sled on my deck. Any takers???? It is going to be sick out there right now.....

CAC FUNDRAISER

Grande Prairie CAC Fundraiser 01/27/12
We are planning on having another "Canadian Avalanche Center" Fundraiser in Grande Prairie on January 27, 2012 to help with the financial needs of providing timely and accruate forecasting for the NORTH ROCKIES, which includes : KAKWA, HASLER, PK, BEAVER CREEK, CORE LODGE, RED DEER FALLS, ETC.

Tickets are $ 25.00
Includes: Steak supper, door prises, silent auction, etc

This event is being held with the help of the Swancity Snowmobile Club. Last Year we were able to raise over $ 4,250.00 towards the CAC and an additional $ 1,200.00 towards the groomer program at Kakwa. The CAC has pledged that 100% of the funds raised locally will be used in our area.

Come out and support this worthy cause.

Tickets are available at Stojan's or from me.

just wondering how the road to two lakes is with this rain and the trail into bc is holding up? im planning on going in sat or sunday.
Just an update everyone, got back from kakwa last night Jan. 12th and the road around two lakes is in good condition, its snow packed now and with 4x4 locked in and proper speed we had no problems around the lakes or the stetson, be careful at kilometer 108-111 very icey and wind blown, the parking lot is like a skating rink and the trail is hard packed and icey for the first few miles.

Help needed - FREE presentations to schools on ATV & Avy safety

HELP NEEDED!! - If anyone has kids in a Whitecourt or Grande Prairie area school Dawn and I will be teaching the Alberta Snowmobile Association's Safe Rider program while we are in town. We still have 6 openings on Feb 1 through 3. This general snowmobile and ATV safety program is FREE to the schools. We have taught over 6500 students so far this season. K-12. 45-90 minutes/presentation depending on the age group. Groups of up to 150 students at a time. Any help that you may be able to offer to encourage the schools to set aside the class time for us would be much appreciated. Thanks!

We can send you a 5 page invitation and registration form to forward to the schools or we can follow up with the schools directly if you provide us with a contact and phone number/email address.

For photos and comments from last season follow this link: ZacsTracs: Alberta Snowmobile Associations SledSmart Program

Thanks everyone!!
