Hey fellas............

Looking for anyone with experience with arctic cat thumbwarmers. The one on my 2010 M8 does not seem to be working. Is there a fuse for these? A relay? Or is it just the switch and an element? I was figuring it is just a bad element..........I still need to look at it more.......was just hoping to get some ideas from you guys that have had this problem with your arctic cat. Thanks in advance for any help.

Dave

Yeah...........my grip warmers work TOO good!! Fingers are roasting while my thumb is dead-cold.......my gloves hold good heat.......but on those really cold days I have been able to tell and it's not fun having a thumb that is stinging and going numb from the cold. Surely someone has had a similar problem with the thumbwarmer on their Arctic Cat...............

moose utility has a replacement , i tried one set but it fell off :P cant say i remeber how good it was though ,, but its an option for thumb

My thumb warmer dont work either. And the grips work sometimes. I think theres lots of guys having issues with them.

I have been thinking about something. I filled my bars with "The Great Stuff" expanding foam, and the hand warmers are awesome now. However, my thumb also gets cold. If I take my glove off, and feel the element, you can tell it is working, but the throttle lever doesn't get very warm. I think the heat doesn't get to your thumb for 2 reasons:

1. Cold air from driving hits the element on the back side, and takes away some of the heat it is creating.

2. The plastic of the throttle is so thick, that what heat is left, can't "penetrate" the plastic enough to heat it up, and get to your thumb.

I was thinking about drilling a series of tiny holes through the throttle lever, then piggy-backing a second thumb element on the back side, and finally filling the back side of the throttle with black silicone 9to insulate from the cold air). Maybe just filling the back with silicone would be enough??

Any thoughts on this? Maybe someone has already tried this.

It's a 2010? It is under warranty. Take it to the dealer. You paid for the warranty when you bought the sled use it.

On my 07 my thumb warmer was weak also! i replaced it with a new one and it came with a little foam piece glued on the back! It works great now!! Check to see if the foamis gone from the back!

Ive had a 2010 m8 sp for a couple of weeks and the right handwarmer doesnt work. heres the big prob the only dealer within 125 miles wants a week to see whats wrong then he wants 2 weeks to order parts then another week to install, thats a whole month just to fix the hand warmer. they dont stock the parts, and they are busy. they are a multi dealer , mainly polaris. my hand is freezing , the part cost 40 bucks and Im ready to just order the sob, then make a appt to get fixed. the whole process really blows. it sucks paying all that money and being under warranty and then having to pay to fix it in a timley manner. Im not about to leave my brand new sled in the shop for a month.

On my two M8s, I used Ultra Black on the back slide of the flipper to seal over the top of the heating element and little foam piece. The color is a nice match and looks factory.

Did the silicone alone make a bi difference?

Ok, so I did not thoroughly read the Owner's Manual; I just assumed that it was Off, Low, High. Not! The switches are Low, Off, High. Dealer also said that the thumb warmer switch gets hit a lot when you are riding and turned off. Although I have noticed my hands burning and my thumb slightly warm. I figured it was because of the larger throttle. It does seem quite thick too.

So for those that solved it with replacing the warmer, did you replace with an OEM or an aftermarket, and if aftermarket, which one?

I talked to my Cat mechanic about this today. He said although he hadnt heard of any problems with the '10s thumbwarmers, he said that the Cats have allways had weak thumb/handwarmers compared to the other comanys. He made sure that mine actually was working but he said there is nothing he could do that would help it without going to an aftermarket unit. If anyone has a solution that is working it would be greatly appreciated because my thumb is still frozen from todays ride. Thanks.

Did you have any problems as far as making the backside of the flipper "too thick?" I'm wondering if going over the top of the element could prevent the throttle from contacting the bars or full throttle?

I will trying out some ultra black silicone tommorow and then going for a ride on saturday. I'll post pics and let everyone know how it works out. Certainly cant make it any worse.

Mine burns my thumb if I leave it on high for too long, same with the hand warmers. I do ride with thin gloves though, the HMK Team gloves work good, they are basically wind proof mechanics gloves. They trick is not to get them wet, once they are wet they ice up.

Same problem here only have 300 miles on and thumb warmer already stopped working pay that much money for a sled and they should last longer then that :frusty:

My 2009 M8 HCR thumb warmer has never really worked. It might produce a little heat but so little that I'm not sure whether it is my own thumb warming it up. I was going to fix it last summer but never got around to it.
