2010 primary spring outlasted the moveable sheeve bushing

I noticed something was slipping at around 7000 rpm at low speeds.

Turned out it's a primary clutch bushing on the moveable sheave. Binding and then the belt slips. Clutch is covered under warranty but the dealer said they can't warranty the 2 belts dusted diagnosing it. Cat says not to even put them on the work order. They gave me a number to call, hopefully they will replace them for me. I'm new to cat. Love the sled but I hope they understand that it's not my fault the bushing went and ruined the belts. I could understand, no warranty on belts if it was clutch aligment or just a rider going to hard for too long.

I wonder if I should put a different primary spring in while I'm at it?
Yellow white?
orange white?
Is there any way you can keep that spring from binding without making the cup bigger?

Nice! Should be a good combo with a yellow white spring I would think.

Are the bushings an ongoing problem? or just a fluke that mine happened to go in 400 miles

When the springs first started breaking everyone was saying orange/white spring as a replacement for the black/orange. Lately seeing a lot of people going with the yellow/white spring.

Read a few posts from people riding at around my elevation (1000ft or so) and they are liking the yellow/white better than the stock black/orange. I think I will be going with the yellow/white.

I'm not sure what to try. I think the yellow white with one of those thundershift washers in there to bump the engagement up around 50 would be close to perfect. If the yellow white holds r's

I picked up a blue and pink SLP. There is a thread on preferences, I picked this one from other guys experience. Taking it out tomorrow. So far the engagment is way smoother, I have not taken it out for a good ride yet.

read a post where one guy said with the yellow/white he was engaging right where he was stock (4300 or so) and running about 81-8200 rpm up top.

I am getting an over-rev up top (like many are) and would love to get that down to the 8200 area. Was thinking about adding some weight but if I am going to change the primary spring anyways may as well hold off on the weights and see if the yellow/white will get the revs down.

Seem to be a lot of people having issues with dropping the engagement down below 4000 rpm too, creates a bog of the line.

Springs....Springs....

So over the last two days I have tried three springs. (2010 M8). Stock Black/Orange was running like everyone else, 4300-4400 engagement and top end at 8150. Tried the Polaris Dark Blue/White, perfect engagment at 3950 with no bog, felt great in the fluffy snow. Top end also good at 8160. However.... it felt all gummed up in the middle?? I think it was binding, due to the taper of the Polaris spring. Also I had a Thunder Products washer on each end. So moved on to a AC yellow/white, I did add two washers on each end to bring up the engagement of this spring, which was at 4100 but I had no top end. Stopped at 7950. Will try Orange/Blk or Orange/White tomorrow. Whatever you use get some washers, they free things up considerably.

I am at 300 ft. tuning in a foot of powder on a lake. I am shooting for 4000-4100 engagement and a top end around 8200+ as when I do go into the mountains around here (4000 ft.) I will lose some.

Does anyone have figures comparing the engagement on the Orange/Blk or Orng/Wht.

I may have to adjust weights to get to the target rpm.

That and stick to a four to four and a half coil spring. The high number of coil springs will bind before you get full shift. I had a D&D green spring in that had five and a half coils put in the same spring rate in CP purple/white only four coils and shifted out first time out on the 8.5" primary.

Don.

If M series ownders are reading this post...Remember I'm spinning a 141x2.25. with 60/60 gears. 060 belt and 67 gram weights. 44/40 helix at 2000'.

I could probably use a little less spring on top than the most of ya.

Snow Dust?

Do you have a vent loose or open? Rivets popped in shock tower area? I had a Shock Tower SLP vent pop out in sugar snow and it sounded like I had gravel in my clutches. At least that's what I heard as I did a face plant into my windshield. Also check under your clutches for something that has opened up.
