2010 M8 Super High Engagment

Just have my new M8 In Revelstoke the last couple days and OH MY does it haul the mail compared to my 2008 M8. The primary engages at 4500ish which seems to high to me as I find it a bit tricky to handle in a few situations because of that. I thought I had seen a thread on this but could not find it. Any thoughts on what I could do here? Different Spring/weight? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Just gonna head out and find some Revelstoke "Action" lol

Ok Thanks Guys. I will give my dealer a shout in the morning. I hope he can fix me up..........

Arctic Cat has a recall on the primary clutch due to excessive torque, The primary clutch is under extreme tension and is most likely to cause significant damage as the clutch will detonate. I strongly advise not to run the machine anymore unless authorized by a dealer.

Wow, that's a pretty significant "first" post.

In your tool pouch there is a shim for the secondary, install the thicker shim and remove the thin one that is currently installed. This should give you the proper belt deflection and lower you engagement. Some have run the thin and the thick shims, but I would try just the thick shim from your tool pouch first.

Also, under "helpful links" @ top of this page, you can check your primary spring to make sure it has not cracked.

I have not heard of any recalls, just a couple things to adjust your engagement RPM.

Side clearance should be .20"

Check clearance between the primary sheaves and a NEW belt - side clearance should be .015" to .020". I've reshimmed the spider on both my M's to tighten them up - helps reduce hard (and high) engagement.

I run an Arctic Cat deakership in Pemberton, BC and we have not been notified of any "Primary clutch Recall". I have been taliking with the service tech and warranty dept at Arctic Cat the past few days about the breaking primary springs, but those are not even a recall yet. They are however a warranty issue. They are recommending replacing the primary spring with the 2009 M8 spring (a bit shorter so no coil bind).

I have 1200km's on my 2010 M8 Snopro and no "fatal clutch issues", just broke two primary springs so far.

My dealer said that they contacted AC and were told to swap out the stock spring for a yellow/white. I'm going to try it next week on my trip and see how the engagement is.

I had a bang upon engagment then I switched shims and that helped and now its back, I dont like engagment at all , its either on or off, no feather, its bang and go at about 4200, I have to blip the throttle alot to ride smooth, I may need to add the other shim. I bought a new hp belt and will try that first . oh btw 10m8sp

I put an AC gold spring in mine, It needed a little shim as it was a bit soft. It now engages at 3500rpm... very smooth.

Krust, have you field tested it with the Gold?
I think everyone was skeptical that engaging too low would produce a bog. Hopefully it works, springs are cheap so its worth a try.

You also might want to check to see if your weights are moving freely. If the bolt, that holds the weights in, is too tight then it will take more rpm to get the weights moving.

I might have to try the gold spring as well. Looking at the charts the yellow/white only drops about 20 lbs on initial whereas the gold is around 50. I'm not that experienced in clutching but I'm doubting whether 20 lbs will really reduce my engagement rpms much.

Hey Homer, slap that yellow/white in there and hammer down. Just quit slowing down, stay on the flipper and engagment won't matter. lol. I think my body encountered some permanent damage after all the booze.

I'm gonna bring a yellow white with me this weekend and swap it while I'm on the mountain. Itsfrom my 07 before I put that slp pipe on. If it works well then I'll order a new One. I'll post a report after.

homer just do like i did with my HCR and break the primary spring she takes off at about 3600RPM lol you going down to kutchers anytime soon???? maybe pick me up one?
