I started it up yesterday and it spit oil , I think it came out of the donut at the y pipe. It wasnt fresh oil it had went through the engine, it was black. It didnt do it real bad but now there is black dots all under my hood. is this a normal anomly from residual oil, it has only happened once. thanks-m-

Same thing happened on my 09 HCR. I was rotted because I want to keep everything clean obviously. So I took the exhaust off, and the exhaust manifold you're talking about and resealed it between the y-pipe and manifold with high temp silicone. Seemed to work. The silicone that was there before was sparse to say the least.

also check the oil pump so it dont stick at half way.
my -09 did spit oil on the exhaust because the oil pump would stick at half way open with throttle closed.

Ditto here too...I put an o-ring around the 2 things to get the oil throttle to come back to the starting position.

I know what you mean , Im real anal about keeping all my vehicles looking brand new, Ive only had this 2 weeks and I open the hood ad theres oil everywhere. Im the guy who washes his wheel wells everytime I wash my truck then I amour all them. Its nice when you can go out to the garage and its full of brand new looking vehicles , even so some of them might be a few years old. I have a 97 sporster custom that still looks as good as the day as I bought it, its like pulling out a new bike everytime I ride it. the seal on the y pipe prolly hadnt seated yet. After riding it yesterday I could see fresh movment at the donut seal and that will help it seat better. It only did it the one time. I normally leave it here in mammoth when Im not here but I will take it home to bakersfield today to clean it up, also I want to rivet my new muff pot to the top of the stock can it fits there very well.

It takes a couple of good heat cycles to seat the pipe and the gasket together. I've known guys that wrap the joint in aluminum foil to catch the splatter untill it seats.

What temp silicone did you use. The highest I could find I think was 750 degrees. Seems like that would melt all over?

a little silicone goes a long way....equally effective is to double spring the pipe...when wide open, there is enough pressure to force the pipe open a bit....the double springs prevents this...:)

my 09 did the same thing yesterday(first ride of the season). it has 800mi. and never did it before. i cant tell where it came from, it looks as if it came from the y but the y looks clean.

Where is the oil?
My wifes brand new M8 was spitting oil on the computer heat shield. The stock pipe had a pin hole in it.

it was during warm up Idle when mine did it. Atleast it is a somewhat normal occurance. it hasnt done it again , just once and Ill clean that up. The last time I rode it there was quite a bit of movment at the donut so the seal looks good. now to mount my muffpot today, I am going to rivet it to the top of the can. I will post photos later
