anybody know if u loose power from putting on a can on your 2010? i heard that some people have because they havent really been tested? let me kknow what you guys think? im a bit curiouse if i should buy one or not. i really want to get a jaws or d&d big dog barker, anybody know if they have tested there cans yet?

Im told the HPS gains in the midrange and nothing on top but I will take the 17 pounds any way I can!!

jeff from dakota performance told me to wait telll about february because no one has tested there cans yet, but i thought jaws tested there s already and they dont loose any power

Jaws has already been tested and has no power loss. They have the dyno sheets to prove it. That is what I put on my 2010 M8 and it rocks

how much power does the jaws gain on the 10?

You'll gain NOISE from a jaws can, not power.

They're claiming that it doesn't lose power, I'll believe it when I see IT, not a dyno sheet.
Can't say I've been terribly impressed by jaws products lately. The noise gets really old.

More times than not, you will LOSE power with an aftermarket can. The biggest reason is the amount of backpressure they (usually don't) create. If you can get a can that would flow identical to the stock muffler on a flow bench, would would have a good chance of not losing power. Gaining power, on the other hand, is usually a dyno trick.

On a side note, the 2010 M, CF, and CFR us the same muffler as the 07-10 M1000. Anything that worked on the M1000 will work on the 2010 M8. The fit will drop right in, as good as it was designed to, without problems. Many think the mufflers are different, but they are 100% identical - same part number even. If you want to take a chance on the power-to-weight senerio, get a can that fits the M1000.

Same part # for 2010, but the 2009 and older are different. ??is did they change the M1000 can from 2009 to 2010? If so, what worked on the old M1 may not be the best on the 2010's

1712-629 for 2010 m8/hcr & M1000
1712-556 for 2009 M1000

You are correct. I shouldn't have said the parts number were the same. However, the bassic muffler itself didn't change for 2010, but the heat shields did. The 2010 ones are a doublewalled sandwitch material to help cut noise down. Along with the new shield came different mounting standoffs, thus the new numbers. I will assure you this, they are still 100% the same. Same flow, same fit, same internal configuration, and internal packing.

I just put the HPS on and its not much louder than stock I like it,,,,, will see if I drop any RPM with it!! but 17 pound less is a great deal

You are correct that the stock 2010 800 and 1000 cans are identical and same part number, doesn't necessarily mean that an aftermarket can for a 1000 will perform the same as on an 800. Sure any aftermarket can for a 1000 will fit and mount on the M8's, performance wise-the 800 may not be as forgiving and/or affected greater by using a modified can.

In stock form the cans are the same and flow the same, however the aftermarket cans do not flow the same as the stock ones, and an aftermarket can has changed flow specific to the 1000, which may have more of negative affect on the 800.

I personally think the 17-20lb weight loss is awesome, but will wait for the snow to fly and others to report back before I blow 300-400 bucks, on something thats gonna lose me 10hp and give me a bog.

I certainly wont be slapping on a 1000 can, there is a reason the aftermarket companies are testing and selling separate cans for 2010 800's and 1000's

well if the cans loose power then why would they put it on the market? that would just give them a bad rep

I put an HPS can on mine as well. Rode once with it and loved it. My rpms were tacking just right. Very impressed with HPS. Scott and his team made a great can. No powerloss. And according to the dyno you actually gain 3.4hp well worth my $400. If your going to get one get HPS.

I can assure you that a can for 2009 m1000 will not work as good for a 2010 M8. This motor acts totally different. Don't read everyone's website to learn what works. Talk to people that have been on the snow with these new products. Yes, the Jaws can is louder than stock, but it is a nice sounding can. It does not gain you any power but is promised not to lose it. Someone also said don't believe a dyno...right you should believe the seat of your pants, are you retarded. I have seen dyno runs in person and that is the best base line for tuning. The 2009 can from Bikeman for a M1000 dropped the hp on my 2010 m8 according to the dyno, but some say that is just a dyno trick.

I believe there have been a lot aftermarket stuff that shows either no real gain or an acutal loss of power and performance. Cats pipes have always been very good and hard to improve upon...except for weight. Aftermarket does not have the EPA breathing down their necks...yet! Cans do not "make" power and the EFI sleds are very touchy about flow.
