Switching back to cat after being on a poo for 9 yrs. Looking for suggested mods to the new 2010 M8 cat.

I just talked to The guys at SLP. They will be receiving their 10 cat shortly to work on this summer. They promised a ripper, I guess we will have to be patient

$$$$$$$

on my LE, I think the only things im gonna be doing is adding some HMK stickers at first.. then maybe a y-pipe and/or can. we shall see..

I think all the mods will be stealth, Quiet pipes, Intake flow increases etc... I think AC has reached there pinnacle on this engine, It will be up to the rest to put it in the 170 BHP range. I am sure it will be a ripper!

Yeah a bit premature to start guessing what will work until they're on the snow. Maybe check back in November. I'm sure there will be dyno feedback by then from some of the major manufacturers.

Don't know much about cats since my snowchecked M8 will be my first, but from what I have read they had the car muffler of a can that was on the m1000 on the m8, so that will be the first thing I change, and I always add vents, I think those two things will get me through the first season on it, I guess I'll find out when I get it and when they start releasing mods though.

I read on another thread the 1000 can fits, i think the 2010 stock one is the same as the 1000. The new one must be heavy cause its huge, slp will make a good pipe package for the 2010, venting will help, a good aftermarket air intake will make a big difference, as well as bdx gears, and maybe some clutching, the 2010 is going to rip.

OK for simple stuff, I would do the can, probably HPS.

I would also do the AMP Gauge Cage - it's on my HCR and lets you see the gauge while standing, and at the same time creates a serious chimney effect and sucks alot of heat out from the hood. You can really feel it pour out the top when you put your hands there. If it saves you one belt it pays for itself.

Then I would put the AMP riser designed specifically for the telescoping post. If you use the post it it's highest position it pushes you a bit back towards the tail of the sled. This riser gives you 2" extra rise, and 1.5" forward also. Before installing it at full extension the bars would be right at my legs/thigh when standing. Now I can have about 3-4" between the bars and my body when standing.

Ice scratchers are always key too. Might as well budget for those too for those days when the access in/out is hard packed.

HPS can????? why?? Not enough back pressure....... made for skidoo try D&D, SLP, Jaws. Have never seen a cat run well on a HPS

Going from memory earlier in the year where people were having trouble with certain cans not performing for them.

I seem to recall they were a quiet can from a certain manufacturer but I'm too lazy to go back and search. Seems alot of guys were switching back to stock or HPS and problems were going away.

Having said that, perhaps it would be best to wait and see what's going to work with this new M8, as I said in my original post.

*** EDIT ***

Here's a link for some guys feedback on cans on previous M8's suggesting they are happy with their HPS on their M. Again, I would wait if you can.

The Skinz Ultra-Q seems nice, and I did not notice a loss in power on my M7, Im thinking to go with either the Super-Q or Ultra-Q on my 2010 M8. Thats unless SLP or D&D come out with a sweet single pipe setup that makes 170 HP....I can dream right :)

I think Klimbing Kitty meant MBRP cans hes watched both of my M's chug thru this winter. And both are getting D&D cans. From what Ive learned whatever Y-pipe and pipe combo you use go with the adjacent can also. Save yerself the trouble. The only time you would use any can would be on stock Y and pipe. At this point they all work good. Just my .02 from way to much bad experience...............

From what i seen at the shows cat has already put a y-pipe on the 8's but i heard that they lost 4hp when they put the 1000 mufler on them so a new can should make a big difference plus with a little more air can't hurt either

on the 1000 the slp full systems seems to work the best, less back pressure cans seem to loose back pressure and power. there a little heavier but quite at the same time.

The compressor is the only thing i care about . But i will be going the safe way for 2010 . We know the 2010 TM1000 will destroy the new TM8 no matter what . I am sure it will be nasty , but i already have an 8 .:beer;

Since the 10 m8 has the same can as a 09 1000, the only have to, is to remove that right away and drop 8-12 pds.

Mo flow mo flow mo flow, get the two side vents and the hood. If you go w/ an intake get the timbersled and then do the nose vents also.
