hopefully not a granade with dynotech saying an easy 160hp stock with new stock exhaust. new seat -3.5 lbs a little to getting used to to look at but probably functional. they took the 09 m8 and gave it a shot of roids. i hope they arnt going to have problems with the new light weight crank either.

Don't know why everyone is so scarred of the lightweight crank. I am sure all they did is lighten the flywheels and didn't comprimise the strength. The word is that the motor will run 8200, so they probably felt they had to lighten the bottom to rev easier.

no worries

lighter crank = quicker revving....snappier engine
this is a Suzuki engine...not a Liberty, the engine will love the new changes!
with 160+ hp this will put Doo and Poo in a position, their engines are running strong as they can...wonder what they will do to compete now? new engines?

You wouldn't think they would have anything left on the table from a 142 BHP engine? But I guess Suzuki was not about to be had in the torque and BHP dept. I am sure it is in the throws they removed the weight and rebalanced the whole assy! I bet the aftermarket will be hard pressed to send it into the 170+ range. Hopefully it is not a special programmed engine (meaning mapping) that put out this kind of BHP as Polaris did? I bet it has the mapping of the HCR with a copy of an aftermarket pipe. '09 guys I would look for a similar setup!

i dont know i think cat is alot smarter then we are giving them cedit for. they know they have the most relible sled and engine. i dontt think they would change that. i think the biggest question should be how will the daimond drive hold up? i would like to see that improved over motor and seat and 4 lbs

i seen a mag that had a 800 cat with fairly cheap upgrades to make it 160hp

Gotta love competition...our sleds keep getting better! Like Boost says, the ball is now in Doo and Poo's court. Let's see what they have. I hope it is good and the bar keeps getting raised higher.

slp pipe setup puts you at 159 hp and retails for $620 but i just bought one new for $460. Add their air intake and you have like 161-162 hp!

-3.5 on the seat, and on their video they say -4.5 on the crank, and lighter skies. so going of the 09 weights, what does that bring them down to? i can't recall their weights but they must getting close to doo with pounds per hp.

Especially since Doo has gained weight from last year. Go look on the specs page on the Doo web site. Either they added reinforcement or they started telling the truth.

a lightwieght crankshaft doesnt necessarily mean weaker. in most cases the lighter bobwieght (rod,piston,wrist pin,ring back) will make the intire engine stronger and will allow higher operating rpm with out sacrificing durability. i would think that the complete rotating assembly has been lightened not just the crank. my concern at this point would be how the new h.o.800 takes to boost. with the change in port timing and exhaust and such it will be interesting to see....either way what a great time to ride a cat:):D:beer;

As bullet-proof as cat 800 motors are, I hope this dosent change anything. I for one am glad I am not buying the first model year of this, let them iron out the problems on someone elses dime !

Sounds intresting either way

Dry weight of an 09 m8 162 sp was 463 dry, If you snow checked last spring you got the boss seat that dropped off another9lb's which put it at 452 or 3 dry, now add on the slp single pipe/can combo which drops off another 5lb and you're at 448 or 9 dry. and at 160 hp. Now lets look at the 10 for arguments sake and use the 10 m8 162 sp, for the baseline weight lets use the 09 463 dry. According to cats web site the new seat drops 3.5lb from the sled, 463-3.5=459.5 on top of that according to the video 4.5 on the crank, now we are at 455lb dry, I'll give the new ski's 1lb, the stock skis are already light, that puts it at 454. At this point we don't know what the new tuned pipe and can will weight in at, will it be similar to slp's weight or slightly more. I say slightly more due to Noise requirements from EPA so I'll give the new exhaust 4lb weight reduction although there is no mention of weight loss from this. That puts the new 2010 M8 162 sp that puts out 157 hp according to the official sign at the dealer show to weight in at 451lb. SO the 09 M8 162sp with slp single and boss seat looks to be less weight. Maybe that's why you don't see any dry weight bragging this year. For just a few dollars you can make your 09 M8 162 very similar to the 2010. I like what Cat did for 2010, and if you own an 05 through 08 it would be worth it to upgrade but if you snowchecked an 09 last spring, got the boss seat as part of the deal and want to get ot 160 hp, going the slp route is the better cost option.

Thats exactly what i think! I have the HCR with SLP single... :D:D:D it hurts the competition!

the M8 is just a great sled period- I am going to put the new seat on my 08- that LE is so sweet looking, I like my nighfire and that LE kinda resembles it but has a little more character with some flat black peices on it- I like it a lot. Cat rules

Just talked to my dealer on the phone today, he is at the show in Vegas right now, and he says they are using an M1000 pipe on the '10 M8 to give it the boost. He said that the pipe and can are heavier, so the overall weight is the same as last year if not a couple heavier.

Nice sled, but $14600 CND for a snowpro 162 ouch! There are dealers selling new 09's for 10g and ad a pump gas?? This may be a good route to go.
