2010 M8 compared to 2009 M8

shouldn't be 3000.00 diff I traded a 09 on a 2010 for a lot less than that, but back to the question, YES, just being a year newer makes it worth more, and the motor is worth the rest. its up to you

i would say add a slp full pipe and you'll be right at the same hp, just add the 2010 seat and for less than 1 grand you've got basically the same sled...

The economic way is slp pipe it and be close. The 2010 motor is alot more snappier and pulls hard with some clutching. It comes down to how much money you want to spend. 3rd ride on 2010 and I think the 010 motor is alot funner than previous m8 motors.

I really like my 09 now that its got the SLP pipe setup. Would like to ride the 10 and see how much better it is

the 09 is proven. i would wait until closer to the end of the season before we all say the 2010 motor is the greatest thing since sliced bread. just been burned a lot on first year motors... remember the 07 800r and polaris 800s of the last couple years.

ya, I looked all over and couldn't find a new 09 m8 snopro for 6999

There were some guys on here selling brand new 2007 M1000's and 2008 M8's for $7500 ish on here .... I wound up getting my 09' M8 two weeks ago for $8500 .... not a screamin deal, but I didn't think it was a bad deal on it. By the time I put the SLP kit on it, I'll have a little over $10k into it, and it will probably be pretty comparable to what a 2010 would perform like ..... at least that's kinda what everyone on here seems to say, if you put that kit on the 09's they perform like a stock '10 does ....

a stock 2010, mine, outruns the modded 09 by a sled length or two consistently.....i don't have to fuss with fuel settings, the clutching is good as is, although you can always improve for your preferences....it will be worth more at trade time....the seat is a nice improvement....besides, the whole tune of the sled is made to work with the stock components, not add this modify that and it will almost beat the new machine...the new m-8 is the best stocker i've had, and i get a new one every year....the engine is a japanese engine, not a polaris.....cat has had very good, dependable engines for a number of years,....ain't choice wonderful......:)

The dealership wouldn't give me a very good trade in value because of the big rebates on the 09 models. I think I might have it sold and I don't have a wife anymore to tell me what to do so I'll probably get the 2010 M8! The marriage would of lasted but she made me choose her or snowmobiling.

That's funny,.......nomatter what brand you ride! lmao

I'll throw in an unbiased .02 cents as I ride one of those "Other" sleds...

Rode a stock 2010 M8 sno-pro today. Ran strong. Quick to rev up and pulled nice.

Then rode a 2009 M8 stocker. Yowsa...I dont wanna say it was a slug but comparing the motor on those two sleds in stock condition is unfair. The 09' pulled lazy. Felt like a 700 compampared to the 10' IMO.....

For what its worth my XP with a buncha compression via an RK Tek head, Rooster Built clutching, can, re-jetted and geared down a tooth burning a a fuel mixture that yields about 100 Octane could only pull about 1 to 3/4 sled lenght or so out of the hole on the new stock 10' M8.

The M8 feels really fast as the clutching seems to hit hard and the sled really pulls....My XP clutching feels like a slipper clutch and dosent have the drama and exciting "Hit" of the M sled.

That tells me if the M8 guy does essentially anything its without doubt a faster sled than my XP....That 16" Doo' track sure does help a guy out coming outta the hole though!! I also outweighed the M8 guy by 80 pounds.....

New M8's are strong as horsemeat in stock form for sure...09's M8's comparitively? Not so much.

I have another buddies 09' M1000 in my garage and we ride every weekend....Once up to speed and climbing? Game over for any unmodded 800 including the 2010 M8. That M1000 is a BAMF' A sure fire trackspeed holding mountain scaling beast.

I just bought a 2009, and my brother and dad bought the 2010's, we really havn't road them yet, but it seems that those 2010's rip a lot harder. Im putting a SLP pipe kit on mine, we'll have to race them before I put the pipe on and then after and I'll let ya know the results!

In my opinion the 2010s are always going to feel snappier than 2009s because of the lightened crankshaft. Less rotating mass in the engine = quicker revs. Other than that I'm sure they changed the porting specs, exhaust system, and probably the compression ratio for 2010 (note that 91 octane is now required). That being said, I put about $2000 into my sled for SLP's level 3 kit and WOW what a difference. I read an article in Snowest Magazine where Speedwerx indicated they were getting something like 157 HP out of a 2010. Everyone keeps saying 165 hp + but apparently Speedwerx hasn't seen that. (Not that 157 hp isn't impressive). A properly ported and piped 2009 will make 165-170 hp and would likely outclimb a stock 2010, plus you'll have an extra $1000 to put in your pocket if you do the work yourself. But, I agree, a stock 2010 is no doubt more reliable than a non stock 2009. Food for thought.

The 800 in the CF/M chassis is down about 5 hp from the F chassis due to intake and exhaust differences.
Not too sure what all is in the SLP kit, but for $236.00 you can get a D&D shim kit that will boost the 07 to 09 800's to 160 hp..
