2010 M8.....Anyone have any seat time from the demo rides?

Riding at togwotee last week, and a bunch of guys said if your going to get 2010 model that you should get the HCR because the mapping is going to be better cause its race version. Could there be any truth to that???

Only if you get a Race Dept. ECU and that voids the warranty

With the HCR having a little wider ski stance,,, M8 39 - 41 and the HCR 42 -44, does it make much difference in handling? I see the '10 HCR has a 153" track, didn't the 09 have a 141 or something like that?

2010 HCR specs appear to be the same as 2009, both are 153

Do you think it would be worth it if one could do that or not.

If you want my personal opinion.... YES, well depending on the price...
I had the HCR (factory race sled) with SLP single and clutching... my riding buddy had the sno pro with the SLP single, intake and clutching... Even though i way 50lbs more than him i always outclimbed him all year. Was always faster off the line too...

As far as the wider ski stance... the wider stance was much more stable on trails. Didnt notice a difference in powder at all...
where i do notice a difference is steep tree sidehills on spring/hard snow... seems to take a little more effort to hold the sidehill.

Thanks, I think i just wanted to hear someone say Yes! Always love to push the envelope. Warranty never seems to be all its cracked up to be when it boils down to it. A friend of mine works at Cat and hes been trying to get me to switch for years. Maybe if he can pull some strings(remap a sno pro to race HCR) it would get me off my poo.

Spend about an hour on the '10 SP 153", HCR and an '10 Assault. Both impressive sleds to say the absolute least! I will be purchasing a 153" SP M8 in the fall! I had plenty of seat time on some M7s and M1000s and the '10 SP is a very fun sled! Was not expecting to be that surprised with it. About a mile down the river I started to get the feel of it. I would choose the Assault over the HCR. I dont know why, but I just didnt like the feel of the HCR, maybe, I didnt spend much time on it to get used to it? anyway... good job, Cat!

How far you you actually push warranty? My dealer said you won't even be able to put a can on and that will void the warranty. Arctic cat is cracking down on the warranty department. Anyone else hear this?

Fellas, keep in mind that we should be sticking facts and opinions on stock for stock. This is the easiest way to guage actual performance from a year old to a new model year. Right? We shouldn't care what a year old with the goodies can do to a stock new year model, right? So, that aside, bottom line, stock for stock a 10 M8 performs better than a stock 09 M8? Right? Im sure that is what most of us really wants to know for a fact--stock for stock.

any engine mods not approved by cat will void waranty

I must have been on the same demo ride as AKHockey! I ride an 06, M7 and I've ridden some well set up M8's. I was very impressed with these new sleds! That new pwer plant is very impressive and I really like the new seat. I liked the way the HCR handled on the trail and the climb, it felt much more stable. I wished we would have had a longer climb to really test these sleds out but what I did see was very impressive. I didn't ride the Dragon so I can't compare there! The flat area's were pretty set up so another guy and I drag raced the SP and HCR, the HCR got a jump off the start but the SP was never more then 1/2 a link behind and both sleds carried the skies the whole way. I wish the HCR wasn't GREEN, I hate green . That test ride cost me $11K, M8 SP LE 158! :D:beer;

Ok go out and put some heavy weights in your clutches and bog a m8 down to 7300-7400 rpm and go try to beat a m7, You guys probably couldn't see past the part of the 2010 getting beat by anything and quite paying attention. DID YOU READ THE FULL POST

The point is most of the 2010 demos are set up sleds and what you buy off the show room floor wont touch most of them, I have ridden demo sleds that kicked the pis$ out of the previous year same sled stock to stock, 05 m7 to 06 demo m7 and the 05 was the best running m7 I had ridden all year, when the 06 actually came out it ran right with the 05 maybe a little better here and there. Oh and the 05 had a A 20 in hillclimb position and the 06 had one in powder position and I beat the 05 off the line so hard the guy on the 05 gave up before I could hit the break. and I didn't feel that kind of pull from a sled until I bought my 07 m1000. I wish I had that demo sled to this day.

These 2010's where obviously not set up yet!!!

There will be a lot of people that have to do some messing around to get the goody out of the 2010's.

I'm not saying they won't be better sled, I think they will be personally, but I don't leave anything alone. I would love it if someone would bring one out and beat my modded 09 m1000 so I can justify buying one, would sure like the weight drop and if you want the best 800 then I would buy one.

The demos are not factory production sleds yet and there will be some changes before its a 100% official.

I just wish AC would sell what they advertise, I hope this year is different.

Too bad you're wrong....

Most of the production parts are done and can't be changed even if they find out they don't work. What you see is what you get, no time to change now.
The demo sleds went down the production line just like they all will. There are no hand builts.
That being said there seems to be some sleds that just work better than some of there twins. My '09 M-8 Sno-pro seemed to be way better than all my buddies sleds, no matter who drove it, but I have not heard the same story from everyone. Heck, some XP riders thing they can beat a M-8. Not in my world.

PS. that's with ''as is'', no clutching or pipes, 300 miles.
