looked down the stearing colume took the triangle plate off cant find the acc 12V plug,,,,,,, need my heated goggles any one know where they hid it??????
Somebody correct me if I am wrong, but when Cat went to the electronic reverse, they also went to 12 v AC. So no 12 volt DC to connect your accessories to.
Cat sells a "DC power kit" for 09-10 CFR, M series 800/1000
Part # 5639-258. It is Plug and play.
I have heard of some guys tying into the fuel pump wiring for dc power, but also have heard there is a risk of pump failure when doing so. The DC kit is considerably cheeper than a new pump.
Unless you are running a air fuel ratio gage or need to plug in GPS or Ipod, the AC power should be fine for a heated shield or goggles. Use the yellow and light brown wires coming from the voltage regulator, it is regulated power and it should be fine for what you want. I tied into the wires behind the stearing colom plate, That is what I did on my 09' CF1000 and it works fine for heated shields, just don't use it for hi-tech stuff.
Remember the heated elements in you shield or goggles is the same kind of power needed that runs your heated grips.. Unless you goggles are some kind of new fangled hi-tech stuff, and it doesn't say in the instructions to use DC only, I'd go with the sleds AC source. The DC kit from Cat is very cool and was designed for the add on's gages that monitor high perfromace parts, and hi-tech stuff.
The accessory power is 12VAC and is a two wire connector (yellow and black wires) located on the left side just below the key switch. For heaters and such it doesn't matter if it's AC or DC - either will work. For electronic devices wanting 12VDC you should not only have a rectifier but also a filter & regulator to smooth the DC out. If you only have a rectifier the voltage will be fluctuating up and down between 0V and about 16V. Arctic Cat has an adapter listed:
On page 65 of the Hi-performance Engineering catalog they have a AC/DC converter for $37.95. Will this work as good as the Cat converter? I have a EGT Hot Tach II I had in my boat but was told I need DC power.
thers no plug near the key switch that I can find,, thanks for the link about powersource rectifiers and I remember Polaris has a small rectifier that feeds a cigarett plug I will check into that.
paul, that is the ignition (key) switch plug harness there.
when installing cats tether set up (which is plug and play) you uplug that there, and install the new harness to be routed in sequence to the other side of the switch and the new harness and tether itself.
i am not sure where we would hook the ac adapter, as i dont have one. and for 189.95 i doubt i'll get one. ski
