so where's neutral
Almost the oldest jap bike dilema, if you put a deep enough notch in the shift drum cam to easily find neutral, then with a half hearted 1st to 2nd shift you might find your self stopping off in neutral......you know the non gear you can never find on your snow bike as you coast to a stop.
Be diliberate, use the clutch, make a distinct lifting of the foot motion.
In the day ( 1968 as I recall ) Kawasaki decided to eliminate this problem and they located neutral below first gear, so.... n 1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th. great for drag racing, but if you were climbing a hill on your trusty f7 and had lost track of wether you were in 2nd or first and decided to give the shifter one more down stab to make sure your were in first...............nope, big neutral, was way not good.
1970 most kawasaki's were back to the the tried and true honda pattern of neutral between 1st and 2nd and a good foot lift required to miss the dreaded neutral.
try alwasy starting in 2nd, works on a wr, not so good on the mx conversions.l
