My bike sometimes when shifting from first to second is hard to find second...hits neutral...and other times is fine. Is this normal on some of these kx's or is there a protential problem with my tranny I should check out. Thanks

Look it up on Thumper Talk forum first off, a lot more info there. That is how I found out it is very common for my bike (07 YZ450f) to hit N when shifting up, it still happens to me all the time on dirt but not as much in the snow cause I am more deliberate when shifting. It is most likely just needing to shift farther.

so where's neutral

Almost the oldest jap bike dilema, if you put a deep enough notch in the shift drum cam to easily find neutral, then with a half hearted 1st to 2nd shift you might find your self stopping off in neutral......you know the non gear you can never find on your snow bike as you coast to a stop.

Be diliberate, use the clutch, make a distinct lifting of the foot motion.

In the day ( 1968 as I recall ) Kawasaki decided to eliminate this problem and they located neutral below first gear, so.... n 1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th. great for drag racing, but if you were climbing a hill on your trusty f7 and had lost track of wether you were in 2nd or first and decided to give the shifter one more down stab to make sure your were in first...............nope, big neutral, was way not good.

1970 most kawasaki's were back to the the tried and true honda pattern of neutral between 1st and 2nd and a good foot lift required to miss the dreaded neutral.

try alwasy starting in 2nd, works on a wr, not so good on the mx conversions.l

Thank you, I did look on thumper talk and saw in 06 they had a paw?? detent problem??? Just wanted to get snowbike riders take on it because it seems we load the tranny clutch more.

I agree I feel like we do put more of a load on the clutch and shifting and that is why I really make sure I have the clutch all the way in and I really exaggerate the shifting to make sure I am getting into the right gear. I havent missed second yet on the snowbike kit but I am sure it will happen sometime cause I do it ALL the time in the dirt, trying to be fast about it. Most likely there isnt a problem... you can always open her up and do a visual inspection, mostly you can tell when there starts to be a problem if you are really shifting up hard and cant get it to go. I am by no means an expert so hopefully you will get some more comments on this.

For me it was my cheap boots with a big rubber soft toe, just got a stiff toed pair of motorfist stompers and haven't missed 2nd since. My old boots flexed so much on top that the shifter and my ankle couldn't agree on the correct angle
