I have a 2015 ST kit coming for my 2010 KTM 450SXF. I have a list of questions. Any help would be appreciated!

-It has a carb so jetting is obvious. JD jetting kit is best?
-I heard I should run a 50/50 mixture of race fuel and premium gasoline so the carb doesnt freeze up?
-Do they make a bolt on carb heater for the KTM yet? Does wrapping the carb with neoprene help it not freeze up as bad?
-Are oversized foot pegs necessary? What ones are the best?
-Do i need a sand cover for the air filter? Is that all that needs to be done with the intake?
-I have a trail tech stator and fly wheel but am affraid to install it. I heard it kills the high end badly. The extra 8oz of rotating weight takes away HP?
-Am i able to run heated grips without doing the stator and flywheel upgrade?
-Is an oversized rad necessary?
-Are rad protectors necessary?
-Does wrapping the exhaust pipe do anything?
-Rekluse clutch necessary?
-Plastic skid plate is better than alum one ive heard?

Sorry for the big list of questions. Just trying to figure out exactly what i need before the snow comes! Thanks for any input guys!

First,
Welcome to the forum! Lots of good info here and people that live/eat/breath these machines.

The search function will give you a lot of answers to your questions in a way that shows you background and reasoning behind the discussion.

It will take a bit of time... but you will get to know the others on the forum, what they are about and their background.

Also, most of your questions are topics in themselves.

I'm sure that some of the members here will chime in as well to help out

Heres a few links to start you off.

some answers

My 2 cents on some of your questions:
-I heard I should run a 50/50 mixture of race fuel and premium gasoline so the carb doesnt freeze up? >>> when I ran my 2 stroke, de-icer helped. Not sure that race fuel makes a difference specifically to prevent carb icing?
-Do they make a bolt on carb heater for the KTM yet? Does wrapping the carb with neoprene help it not freeze up as bad? >>> I have seen all manner of attempts to heat carbs, most are ineffective. The tapped carb heaters available through KTM are useless in my opinion. Plus, they are prone to failure. The neoprene boot keeps snow from bonding to the carb which is probably a good thing but the carb can still freeze with the neoprene, or any other insulation for that matter. I've seen some interesting solutions piping coolant through stainless tubing wrapped around the carb. one of the guys on the forum (MountainDoo?) has developed a heated fitting that sits between your air cone and the APT smartcarb...but you would need to get another carb.
-Are oversized foot pegs necessary? What ones are the best? >>> I use Fastway pegs that have been modified to be wider. www.brewsterwest.com fabricates the modified pegs. They work flawlessly.
-Do i need a sand cover for the air filter? Is that all that needs to be done with the intake? >>> Use a snow cone. Most of the TS reps will have something available that they fabricate and sell. It is definitely an improvement over the stock air box which will plug up with snow. You will also need to cut out the bottom of your airbox (there is a recent thread on how to do this).
-Am i able to run heated grips without doing the stator and flywheel upgrade? >>> not sure about the flywheel? I've got a 2013 450sxf and I upgraded the stator to run grip heaters, and a light bar, and few other goodies (bazaaz and NOS). It works.
-Is an oversized rad necessary? >>> no
-Are rad protectors necessary? >>> considering the number of trees that I run over, I think they're a good idea but not absolutely necessary.
-Does wrapping the exhaust pipe do anything? >>> ceramic coating apparently helps on the 2 strokes but not sure about the carb thumpers?
-Rekluse clutch necessary? >>> No
-Plastic skid plate is better than alum one ive heard? >>>yes, snow doesn't stick to the plastic.

Hope this helps.

Fast way pegs are great. Stock work but only get about 75% of the length
Remove air box and do a pod filter setup.
If you do a good skid plate and engine enclosure I would almost garantee u won't have carb ice issues
Thermostat is important. Getting snowbike specific soon

thanks guys! i appreciate all the info. Its been a good head start! I ordered a ST a week ago. Now i just have to ching a ling the credit card for other mods!!
