Looking at purchasing a Brand new 2010 800 Dragon, Dealer says the updates are done? Does that mean, no engine blow ups if left bone stock? Or am I headed down that "wicked twisted road"

Thanks in advance for your replies:smile:

Just add in a fuel controller..have fun and you should be good. work the deal and have it thrown in or at least get it at cost. If it is a new holdover 2010 it shouldnt be much over 9K maybe less.

i bought a 2010 d8 last year brand new
awesome sled, bought it jan 1st and put it away june 15th with 1600 miles on it, never missed a beat
the 2010 motor isn't "updated" like the 08-09's needed to be
they must mean it has the latest flash in the ecu?

either way i dont think you can go wrong
i turbo'd mine this season and it is a beast

Good Luck and enjoy the new ride

I bought one new in Nov. Still a bit skeptical.

First 5 miles sled started cutting out, then thought I fouled a plug. One spark plug cap came off, and the other was dang near off. Simple fix, just put zip ties around the boot. No problems with that so far.

My VR went bad at 46 miles and it had me very angry. I'd buy a spare VR from your dealer to have on hand for a quick fix, and if they are good, they'll credit you when/if your VR fails.

Before that ride at 41 miles, I pulled off a bad belt (new ones are between $140-190)

Clutches were way out of alignment. Pulled the engine mount strap and ground out the bolt hole to get it aligned. Did this while waiting for new VR to show up. Otherwise, clutching seems pretty good stock, although it is geared plenty tall.

Since all this, I've got over 500 miles on it, and absolutely love it, and haven't even yet rode in anything outside of trail conditions and some deep ditches (Iowa). Shocks are pretty plush, otherwise suspension works pretty good. I'm 220#'s without gear.

I'm going to clean my valves soon and inspect pistons :face-icon-small-dis
If I see anything, I'll ride the piss out of it and take it in after this season.
Sled had 112psi both cylinders new, and going to check that again to see what/if it came up to after break in.

I did (and glad I did) buy a 5 year full warranty extension for around $800.

Sled will definitly benefit from a PC5 but I won't put one on til next year. I haven't had one single stumble or poor throttle response yet... until today. And this stumble was VERY minimal, but noticeable. Sled has been running 125* in almost all conditions, but sometimes up to 135* on super packed river. Today the stumble happend a couple times in some really low snow conditions with sled temps around 145* otherwise. Dropped scratchers, sled ran 125* and nice and crisp. Todays outside temps were around 30* otherwise all my riding has been done around 10*

I have run probably half the time on 91 non-eth, and 89 w/10% eth the other times. Always with wires unplugged FOR ethanol.

So, like I say, I'm still skeptical, but getting towards the side of completely loving it.

Sorry for the novel, just figured i'd give you my whole take/experience.

You will find a good deal, that's for sure, but it will be easier on you if you anticipate some issues (unlike I did).

Hope not, I just bought the same sled as a new holdover. Approx 50 break in miles on it now, so time to toss the PCV at it, just got map from DTR this afternoon :face-icon-small-hap.
Only one minor stumble so far, that was when I had just left the truck in the first 2 miles or so. I attributed that to the oil in the gas and a slightly cool motor still..
Hoping to try it again tomorrow and have same problem free results!

Thanks for the replies

I have heard so much bad, that I was hoping they would have figured out the problem by 2010, and i wouldn't have to add the PC V. Plus these are are great sleds and stupid cheap.

At a minumum, I'd put on a PCV and some egt's or a wideband. I added as much as 15% fuel in some rpm/ throttle settings.

P.S. Mine is for sale, waiting on crank parts.

2010 dragon engine

This is something I have been trying to find out before I fix my 08 DB. Are the 2010 engines more reliable? I haven't seen alot of threads with blown engines from 2010. The 08 and 09 threads seem to be everywhere.

could be wrong, but to me looks like there are not many 2010 800 threads because everyone knows the 800 faults and decided to stay clear in 2010.

i hope they are fixed in 2010 i really do. my dealer has probably 20+ 2010 800 dragons and assaults sitting in crates out back still wrapped up.

Powell, Wy. called One Stop Shop. last i talked to them they were still wanting like 9700 for 2010 assault. maybe a serious buyer can score a deal from them, but to me they sound quite over priced yet. especially for only moving one in the last year and sitting with as many as they do. 307-754-7241.

I got my new 800 Dragon in October of 2010 and it has been in the shop three times already. I took my sled in on the 14th of January and Polaris still has not sent the part. Its the first of February and no new oil pump in my future. My friend bought the same sled the same day and everything is also going wrong with his sled. Voltage regulator, electrical box, now oil pump. So if you buy this sled you better have a backup.
