:help:Just bought and need to pick up some must haves. What spark plugs does this sled need or do you suggest? Is there a better belt then the ..115 OEM belt? Do I really need a power commander with the most recent updates? If so where do you suggest I buy? Anything else I need to look at before taking to the mountains? Has 1300 miles. Thanks in advance for any suggestions and all your help!!

Before you go spending any money, make sure you read through the "Increasing Your IQ" sticky at the top of the forum. There is more info there than most of us can remember.

Plugs, I run Champions like my sled came with if possible. Otherwise NGK's

Belt, the OE115 is the best. Others work but the 115 is the way to go.

Power Commander, not required for a stock sled. I use one on my '07 D700 to get rid of the mid throttle burble and to also get rid of the over rich top end.

Where to buy parts, support local! Now if your local shops are over priced or don't stock squat and want to charge you freight on every little part check out the on-line vendors here on the forum, lots of bargains.

The Power Commander is a must on the 2009-2010 Engines. They have a scary lean midrange and will blow up if you spend time cruising at mid throttle. Also the Power Commander adds 10hp while cleaning up the factory crappy mapping.
Best bet if you rebuild is with Forged Pistons and get them from RK TEK.
Power commander can be or purchased from Jim at www.dynotechresearch.com
He loads the map into the power commander based on your engine being stock or modded and you get a 3 year subscription to his site.

Champion or NGK ??

What is the part # of the champion or ngk spark plug for the 2010 800 rmk dragon?? I looked thru the Sticky and I cant find. Thanks!!:help:

I use the NGK BPR9EIX Iridium plugs but that is what Carl's Cycle recommended for my 860 but it has almost a 1000 miles on it and original plugs

Champion RN57YCC for my 700, probably the same for your 800. The NGK numbers are the same for both.

I run the 2008 mapping with no power commander on my stock 2010 and my single piped 2009 and have zero issues....both are running the Mtn Tek fix also..

My sled came from the factory with Champions and the owners manual lists them, why change what works? Nothing wrong with NGK Iridiums either. Kinda like a "best oil" thread, who cares use what works for you.

Lets get back to helping the OP enjoy his new sled!

Thanks for the reply.. what is Mtn Tek fix?

glad to hear you don't have to run the power commander! What does the Mtn Tek fix consist of? Shop install or did you do yourself? Any increased hp's or was this just preventive maintenance?

Skid plate?

Do you use a skid plate or not. My cousin swears you need to try and protect your investment, my buddy says you don't need one and they really don't protect much?? Do you use one and do you suggest installing or not??

A skid plate is a must have for me. There are plenty of stumps, rocks, brush and logs hiding under the snow. If it protects you just once, it can pay for itself!

Gotsnow, what elevation do you run your sled at? The 08 ECU map works well from approx 4000' and higher. At Sea level the 08 map doesn't work any better than the others.
The "January" flash has been proven the best for sea level and absolutely needs a Power Commander....regardless of what Flash the ECU has 2008-2010!
Plus it adds 10hp-which i already stated.

Running mostly aroun 7500'

First choice is the Big Horns otherwise I have been to the Snowies, Togwotee and West Yellowstone but still all around 7,000 -10,000. I did some research as to the power commander and it seems to have mixed reviews. I am still undecided if I will buy one or not. The sled had one on before as the prior owner left the Velcro on where it was attached. The sled has 1300 miles so also wondering if I need to change out the pistons (fix kit) or not? Thank you for your advice I am taking everything under consideration as I keep learning more and more every day!

I think I got most everything I need ??

Ok I bought a used voltage regulator. I have spare plugs and belt (3211115). The sled had a power commander based on the Velcro by the air box. I had the dealership re-flash the computer to make sure its not set to be used along with a power commander. The sled had the rack for a jerry can so I bought a jerry can too. I heard these sleds gulp the gas down?? I have a small tunnel bag and everything is greased. Anything else anyone can suggest I have? Oh I have 10/58 weights in and I am heading to Togwotee 12/31/14. From what I heard 10/58 should be good for 8-10K feet?? I only have the one set of weights but will need weights for 1,700 feet. What weight would I need?

Thanks in advance for any help and suggestions!!!

reflash

What did the dealer charge to reflash the computer. I just bought an 09 d8 and kinks wanted to take it up and make sure it had got the right flash.

I bought from a dealership so there was no cost. Sorry cant tell you what the cost is. Maybe somebody else can respond to give you an idea... or just call a couple of dealerships to ask.

I've had a couple sled flashed at 2 different dealers, one was $55 the other was $75. I guess one had more people to order pizza for that day...?

I recommend a skid plate, I use (and sell) the Skinz float plates as they cover a little more area than the OEM and provide some A-arm protection.

I've had good luck with the Dayco XS belts.
