2010 800 Dragon problems/questions

Here's the story. I put about 50 or so miles on for my break in period -- road rides, heat/cool cycles, oil in fuel etc. Sled ran flawlessly. Went out yesterday for my first "real" ride. Snow was really deep without a base, ran the sled really hard 40+ miles and it ran perfectly. We decided it was time to head back to the trailer, and headin down the road when the sled just cuts out. Check under the hood and a spark plug wire is unattached. Plug it back in and I'm off again. Sled runs poorly. Stop and change the plug. Run it hard for a mile or two and it's running great again all the way back to the trailer. Phew. Went out again today just for a road ride to check it out. Ran great for about 10 minutes then ran like crap! Cutting out, rough idle, dying. Replace plugs and it is running much better but not quite right. Replace plugs again (this time with my buddy's NGK plugs -- I had been running champions) and the sled ran very well. I only had a chance to run it with these plugs for a few miles because of blizzard conditions and we had to get out of there, but the sled did not show any of the problems it had earlier. Any suggestions? When the plug wire came unattached, did it affect the fuel mapping? Obviously, I am pretty new to this, so try and be nice and not hammer on my ignorance too much.

Water in fuel or.....
My 07 and 08 both had problems with snow getting in the airbox.
You said you were riding in blizzard conditions.Did you look in the airbox to see if there was snow in it?This will make the engine run like sh*t.If so get some silicone sealant and seal around the headlight.
Just a thought.

Didn't see snow in the air box. The last part of the ride, when the sled ran best with the new ngk plugs, was when the whiteout was at its worst. I will try it again today. Thanks for the reply.

Same thing happened to my buddy's 2010 800 dragon....

The question we have is how the hell do the wires come off of the spark plugs. It takes a good amount of force to get that off when its working correctly. It happen a few times to us. We took it to the Polaris dealer and they switched the wire caps and put new plugs in it under warranty. Within 20 miles the wires came off again. It seemed to be a vibration that leads to wearing the nipple off of the spark plug making it really loose.

We zip tied them down with a zillion ties and had no more problems that day.

Needless to say its going to the dealer again tomorrow, 10k doesn't get you much these days...

I don't think it is the ethanol wires. I have never changed my wires (unplugged them) and I've had both ethanol and non-ethanol fuel in my sled (91). What did the plugs look like after you pulled them? Were they very rich? Also, did the plug wires come off again or was that a one time wonder? I actually had that happen once before too, but that was once in 700 miles.

My hunch without any additional information is that your sled is running very rich from the update (which is the same as your 2010 map). It really depends on which map you have (the latest or the Polaris update map). Several people are fixing that sloppy running map with the Power Controller V from Dyno Jet. That leans it out on top and the sled comes to life (in theory). This all makes more sense to me than snow in the intake. I rode in bottomless snow yesterday and never had any issues with snow intake. Talk to your dealer to see if you can get your map updated (this is free).

Hey guys we just got the dragon back from the dealer yesterday....The tech said the clutch was on crooked ? We never touched the clutch so it came from the factory that way.... He just took it off and put it back on and its perfect now.

FYI the plug wires were very tight before they came off. It would take 20 lb of force to removed them and in 20 minutes a pinkie flick would knock them off.

So check your clutch alignment...

So much for dealer set up on your sled. Pay all that money for new sled and the dealer can't even check to see if the clutches are on correctly.
