2010-2013 YZ450F Airbox pics

Can you guys that have done airbox mods on a 2010-2013 yz450f post up some pics? Ive seen a bunch of pics in various threads, figured maybe we could put them all here in one place. Looking for some good ideas for mine...

I've been riding in blower for the last few weeks and this system has been flawless. I made the vents for both sides of the rad guards as well as frog skinned the openings in the front. I've ridden 14+ YZs with the mod where the air filter is between your legs and for me that setup is WAY too loud, it would drive me nuts. The way I have mine is nice and quiet and gives ample air. Outerwears over the stock cage.

Can I get some details on what you used for the shroud vents? Looks great!

Also, how did you get the frog skinz to adhere on the front openings?

Its a little bit farm boy but it works. For the frogskins I cut out the aluminum perforated metal in the same shape as the plastic outer rim the material which I had lying around from doing hood vents on turbo Nytros and Nypex's. I bought the plastic at a local supplier a few years back. The perforated aluminum came from Metal Supermarkets which is basically the Canadian version of Online Metals but way more expensive. Its pretty soft maybe a 2024 .040. I used a tape to adhere the edge of the frogskin to the metal using about a 1/2" strip. Lastly I predrilled the rivet holes by laying the aluminum backing over the plastic and used existing holes in the aluminum. I cut out the shrouds and riveted it all together. The sandwich holds it all together.

For the front openings I cut out the same metal in the shape of the opening the covered it with the frogskin. The metal is cut extra long to allow it to be riveted flat onto the back of the shroud. I had to make a template for those ones then I just bent the metal by hand to make a tight fit. I will post a pic if I get a chance, may not be for a few days we are heading out riding Revy/Sicamous again today for a few days.

I did the same thing as m5 except I used spray foam to fill the front intake cavity to block it off and siliconed all around where the 2 pieces attach together to not allow any snow in. I also used cotton batting glued all the way around where the shroud attaches to the air box as well as the air box lid to make a good seal. The frog skins on the sides let more than enough air in. Works great, clean intake riding fender deep snow all day. You may not have to get that carried away but depends on what kind of snow you ride in.

The bike burbled a couple of times yesterday, I think a little snow must have gotten in somewhere probably from the bottom of the airbox. Snow was light and very deep. Biggest challenge was keeping heat in the motor.

I have a newish CR pod intake setup with the airbox cover if anyone wants it $100usd plus shipping

I think you are going to want the frog skin on the outside because the aluminum will ice up where as the frog skin sheds the snow unless I'm missing something.

You think it will ice up? Reason I did that was to protect the frog skin from branches/getting ripped. Now that I think about it you may be right. Snow might accumulate in the holes I drilled...

I doubt it. If you get some snow on one side it may choke off. It'll run but just not at max efficiency. Try it and see how it goes you can always add the side vents later if you need them. The most important thing is to seal every possible hole where snow can get in. More is better when it comes to air flow.
