2009 polaris iq 600 or 800

I am about to buy a polaris iq 600 or 800. both are 2009 but i am struggling trying to decide which i would like better. i do almost all trail riding in central wi. is there any positives or negatives with either sled or one over the other? any opinions would help!

i would do 6. seem to be much more reliable and from what i have HEARD the added power of the 8 you dont notice until steep deep snow climbs. so on trail the 6 seems like the perfect option. jmo

Are you kidding? About 40% of the threads in the Polaris section are dealing with 800cc motor failures. If you have cash to burn and like sitting at home because your parts are backordered buy the 800. Buy the 600 if your a Polaris die hard. If not look to a different manufacturer.

Own both....600 all the way due to the fun factor. Then install a 660 Carls Kit and spank 8's with 6 reliability.

For whatever reason, the 6's ride like they are 20-25 lbs. lighter.

Go with the 600!

That will get you in to enough trouble!

I have a 600 iq 144 and the Pro 155

When we don't have the best snow or its not fresh snow... I get on the 600.. The Fun Factor Just went up 30%!

I just recently went through the same dilemma. I crossed my fingers and went with a 600. Then I joined this forum and have been counting my blessings ever since. I knew the 800's were having issues but wasn't aware of how chronic the problem really is. Anyway, with a single pipe and a shot or two of NOS my 600 is way more fun than any 800 I have ever been on or around. Couldn't be happier at this point.
My $.02.

I would look for a 700.I took my wifes 09 RMK out last sat and put 65 miles on it.I was very impressed with this sled .Sure my 800 has more power out of the hole but the 700's run strong and there was no midrange bog like my 800.We demoed a 600 last year and while okay for the trails the 600 just doesn't get up on the snow in the powder like the 700/800

Dont base experiance based on a demo ride. I have ridden both the 8 and the 6 extensively. I own two 8's and a 600. From what I have done with both sleds on the same day ion the same snow on the same terrain back to back, the 600 gets ontop of the powder just as well and IMHO better than an 800. I am not sure exactly why that is but I suspect that the additional power on the 800 spins the track much faster causing a bit of a more pronounced trenching effect vs the 600.

I have the same skis and the same front shocks on both my 8 and the 600.

With a Demo sled you really dont have the setup correct and it isnt apples to apples if any one thing is different.

Now as far as the Trees question..for trail riding only? Please update your profile so we know where you are riding at or from. If you are really a trail only type of person, flatlander etc...then a short track like the Yamaha Apex or the Polaris rush would be my choice..but there may be a time when you want to get off the trail..then I might better consider something else. Maybe the Polaris Turbo IQ. For trail riding I think the Yamahas are some of the most comfy sleds..you can build them up to your hearts content for fast trail riding if you choose later. The Polaris Turbo IQ has a 136 track so you could ride about anywhere off trail if you chose( Remember just a few years ago we were riding 136's as a mountain long track!

Stay away from the 800 unless you want to buy mine :face-icon-small-win. I have not had a failure and the sled has plenty of power but it is not the steady performer the 600 is. I came from a 600 Edge and if I stay Poo I am going back to a 600!

The ride is a huge improvement but the motor is to inconsistent for me.
