2009 m8 sp 162 or 153

I am thinking of buying a new cat cant decide 153 or 162 any ideas have a 153 m7 now with a better track mabee dont need that extra track and weight

I would get the 162 for sure . I cant stand helping my 153 M7 buddy dig out his sled all day long. I told him i am going to give him my 162 off my M8 , and it only has 200 miles on it since new . I just dont want to ride with people who are stuck all day long .

I have a 162 and i dream about a 174 . But then again i despise riding on the trail EVER . I noticed you are a Wyo guy , dont be the guy who needs help all day .An M is made for the DEEP , go 162 or stay home.:beer;

Good point i am just kinda worried about manovering through those heavy timber patches.

I cruise up to my 153 buddy where he is stuck at 1/4 throttle , get off and help him dig out his short track . And then i cruise off at 1/4 throttle , and all i ride in is THICK tree's . I am not a point and shoot guy at all . I live for pushing snow over the bars , boondocking through the tree's.

You dont have to worry about much on a 162 M. The people who brag about how a 153 is so cool ,are either gay or flatlanders.

If you want a trail sled buy a trail sled , an M is made for DEEP POWDER!:beer;

with a 162 in the trees, you can slow down much slower than a 153 without digging in...by being slower you can maneuver better....so rather than being a liability in the trees, the 162 is an advantage...especially in wyo, you get a lot of deep, light powder....the 162 will handle it much better

Imo

its an extra 4.5" longer, I have never been able to understand the concept that people can really feel that difference.
If it helps think of this.....if the powder is deep and your playin in the trees, u can bet the 153" will be the one stuck.
I ride 95% mountains, no need to go any smaller than the biggest.....

food for thought.

Your buddy must suck at sledding...
I ride a 153 in deep Utah snow never have any problems going up hills or weaving in and out of trees. I liked it better than the 162 I rode on a m1000. But to each his own. I'm sure if I spent more time on the 162 I'd enjoy it. Plus like said that new powerclaw is pretty nifty. You'll be happy with either one.

162 or 153

If someone is riding with a 153 and getting stuck all day sounds like rider error not the track length. My personal opinion 162 is only 4.5 more inches on the ground not even one lug more. Just dead weight and more rotating mass.

Damn I’m not gay. I think that you are being a little harsh on that statement! LOL
I have a 153 on my M1000 and I wish that I would have gone longer when I climb. But I have no problem riding through the trees. If you get a 153 stuck that much you better give your buddy riding lessons!

As others have said the getting stuck part is on the rider, not the track. I boondock DEEP snow, in tight trees and ride the steep and deep all day with a 153 without getting stuck. They are easier to boondock in the tight stuff when the spring snow comes, better jumpers, cliff droppers and better sidehillers IMO. Id go 153 all day my friend although a 162 on an M is a great mountain track too, especially if youre a point and shoot type of guy. Good luck

Getting the 09 162 m8 snow pro pick her up tommarow. Rode my m7 yesterday man she is a great machine 4000 miles still outruns those 800 doos hope this m8 is even better.

All i have owned is 153" sleds. I would really like to ride a 162 some time to see the difference myself.
I had a 153 m7 with big bore and twins. I have a 154 xp now. If your buddy is getting stuck all the time on the 153 it is his fault. I have ben riding with guys on 162's that have got stuck 5 or 6 times in a day where I never got stuck or only got stuck once.
I have ben riding with guys that had the exact same sled and got stuck 5 or 6 times and I only got stuck once.

153

I didn't know I,m gay! I had a 162 and got a 153. Do I regret it somtimes? Yeah, on those super deep days, but I'v ridden my friends 162 enough to know that there is a difference in nimbleness. I don't mind not going as high as him because in the trees I really like my sled. I do work a little harder.
I think for WY. a 162 is right and as far as getting stuck, you gotta try some crazy lines and stick it good or your just not having all the fun you could.
Enjoy the new sled!!

i did notice when i first got my m7 i did get stuck quite a bit cause of the lack of low end and not controlling the throttle but it got better. I havent rode one with a long track other then within the truck you know the ol go try er out quik. I have noticed that some of the guys that have longer tracks go better on those cold powdery days but on the other dime they are damn good riders. We will have to see my m7 is not going anywhere it is now the paid off plan b/ loaner so if there is days i dont like the long track i can always use her but i think from what most people say i will like the longer track better anyhow thanks a bunch.

In Wy you want a 162 the 153 doesn't compare, I have friends here in WA that think a 153 is better for more track spin but there is only one of them that swaps highmarks with me and he is 160lbs with gear and I'm 220lbs with gear, at 60lbs lighter he should be stomping me, I let a WY friend that weighed 160 in Cooke City jump on my sled and he beat my highmark on my own sled by 50-60 feet, just not fair. In Cooke a 153 is about 30-60 feet shy or more of 162 highmark with the same rider. Everyone I know in WY that had a 153 turned it for a 162, the dealer doesn't even order them anymore.

Well picked her up today 162 setup sucks track is way to tight no free gas who knows what else guess thats what you get when a dealer claims he lost money on her ride on saturday hopefully made the right decision

Made the right choice 162 power claw rocks goes like a frieght train through that deep powder. Gas milage way better then my m7 i think cause there is so much less slip
