2009 M8 primary weights

Just doing inspection on my sled tonight, compressed the primary to check the weights and they seem to be all stiff, I thought they should actually swing when you lift them up. I know on my 2003 900 mountain when I check the weights they would be fairly loose. I have not removed them yet but noticed there are rubber O rings on either side, do they have to be changed and lubed? Thanks

yeah with the oring they tighten up. they dont swing free. orings there to keep things centered. you should still be able to move them with your finger but they dont swing free. probably with the force of the weights/rpm its going to overcome that little resistance anyway. if you can move with your finger they are fine.

That's the way the newer clutches are. The old clutch like your 03 held the pins tight and the weights moved. The new style holds the weights tight to the pin with a set screw and the pins rotate in the housing. I don't think you should lube the o-rings. ( if you ever change weights it helps to heat the setscrew as it was installed with red loctite )
