2009 M8 mods wo/Fuel controller

I would like to add air intake and can, mostly for weight savings.
Can this be done without a fuel controller. I know that the SLP kit and Air intake says it can be done without a fuel controller, but I am wondering with keeping the stock pipe is this still doable without?

Not really looking for performance but a 15# weight loss would be nice, never owned a 450lb sled before 550 yes, this would make my new sled full of fluids about the same weight as my Tcat dry.

Intake, Y-pipe, and can on my '08; all D&D. I was 1100-1225* max EGT's at -30*C in McBride. Since I'm not running a controller, and confirmed where I'm at; I pulled my Digitron off after we got back, and am not at all worried about being lean.
