Opening day of Mule Deer season here.

Took the boys out and they got some shooting in. For the younger ones "BUCK FEVER". Not quit sure where they were going to hit. But they are learning and getting better.

My oldest shot a dandy Mule Deer. I green scored it at 178 1/8. Measured 25 7/8 outside spread 5 1/2" dia at the bases. Had an extra point on one side for a deduction. Big deer.

265 Yards, .270 Cal 130 Gr Hornady Interbond. Litterly dropped him in his tracks. Very impressed with this load. Hit hard and held together well. First time I have seen a buck that size flat hit the ground, just like you blew the feet out from under him.

How was Opening day for others?

One bull down this year (took a guy during Archery)...heading out Saturday for more elk hunting...Will post pics...

We have a local taxidermist that injects or soaks them in some sort of chemical then lets them air dry. It seems to work real well, smells like turpentine. Another method I have used is giving them a couple soakings from a can of starting fluid, then letting them air dry, this works very well also, but seems to create more shrinkage than the other. I use ether for everything, I'm going to write the book "1001 Uses For Ether" in my retirement years:D:beer;
Keep the pictures coming.
