2009 Assault / D8 Engine Temp??

I have a 2009 Assault with about 65 miles on the updated engine. Where should normal operating temperature be at in a flatland situation with not alot of fresh powder. I am always going off the side of the trail to get some snow in the track. I was out last weekend and it was between 122 and 136. When i was out today I noticed it near 185 (the engine temperature light did not come on). I stopped then and let it cool down. I had a difficult time keeping the temp below 160 today(even with riding in powder). I checked the antifreeze and it was not low. I rode very little because of concern about elevated engine temp. Does this seem normal?? At what temperature are you actually damaging the motor? What temp does the temperature light on the engine normally come on at. It was not on, I was just watching the temp.

Not an Assault but my D-7-155 and the wife's RMK 600-144 both run 118-126 except on pure hard pack.We put scratcher's down on anything but fresh snow days.Cheap insurance. If you don't have some I would recommend Slidekicks you can put the sled in reverse without damaging them.

Thanks for the great info so far. Any more information for the rest of the questions. What temperature is the engine being damaged? When should the temperature light come on? Could not having scratchers and lack of fresh powder be a reason for the elevated temp? The actual temperature outside was -3 degrees f.. Could that have anything to do with it? Thanks again for any information.

My 08 D8 ran cooler before the update. With at least a few inches of powder it will stay in the 120's, but on harder snow even with scratchers it rises pretty quick, even into the 160's, which I have never seen before the update. My wife's 600 144 routinely runs in the 140 -160, and has even been up to 205, and the light has never come on. So, I don't know at what temp the light would kick in, but you would think over 200 would not be good for the motor.
