Just took out the exaust side piston (i think). I have not had a chance to pull the head to really look at the damage yet but when I pulled the y-pipe it was white as well the power valve area looked to have burn marks on it as well. i have not done one of these lay lown motors before so what are people having luck with.

A couple other questions I had.

Where is the best place to drain the anti freeze it looks to me like the hose right behind the can??

Stock pistons still working ok or should I use Wiesco or something eles.

Will I need a fuel controler to go one size bigger??? Again I have not looked at the jugs yet so I am hoping to just put a stock piston back in.

Any other pointers or info please let me know

easy on the new threads bud - that's three on one page!!! :D

Use stock pistons - they disperse heat the best as they are cast. and are you sure you burned it down? Sounds like it - but what makes you sure? Check your comp before you pull it apart. have fun pulling that PTO jug out!

Great Idea I will check today, If compression is good the it will be another issue???

When I pulled y pipe off from what I could see looked burned but no clear hole in the top anyplace??? The clutch side looked black and had oil the PTO side was the great color of white. any other thoughts????? Just hope the jug is still good!

post pics and do a comp test. They should be within 10psi of each other. if outside of that, you burned her down. Wierd though...

yep it is weird stock except bdx intake and MBRP can running 87 octane fuel and I watch my RPM's very close ????? Only had 1 year warrenty so I am trying to see if cat will step up now that it has been 2 months past. I recognize that I should the motor close to every 2000-2500 miles but half that??? I am going to start running premium to give that a shot. It was raining here as well when I went to run it into the garage let it warm up good thats when it went bad. Do you think it could be ECU getting wet and shutting down one side???? the compression test is a good call will let you know as well as post pics

Any pointers for removing that jug ????????

As well thanks for all of your help!!

it burned down in the garage!? Are sure you didn't fool the plugs??? Get us some comp numbers and then let's chat more about wether or not you need to do a top end. The jug sucks to pull off no doubt.

No sorry i was moving it into the garage and warmed it up (good) and took it for a quick spin around the yard and it quit running on one cylider. On the way home from my last ride it rans crappy but there was a tonne of sugar snow packed under hood. The BDX Black box filter was fully covered I thought I might just have the bog as a result of lack of air or some moisture in the system. Could I have sucked in water as a result of the rain?????

Tested the compression
PTO 110
MAG 125

As well here are some pics.

these pics dont show me enough to see anything important. I need to see some piston shots. It looks heavy on oil on one side for sure. but let's see the pistons. Shows the pics of the plugs too. PTO vs. MAG.

Take pictures of the piston through the exhaust port. Don't pull the jug until you know the piston is bad. You can tell if the piston is bad by looking throught the exhaust port and power valve slot.

Here are the pics of the pistons and the jugs

the biggest thing that seems wrong is the compression????

All looks good any thoughts put it back together see how she runs with all new plugs????

20 lbs on the head????

it looks like the mag side was running lean which is the side with the recoil

If I was a bettin' man I would say you lost a head o ring. That one side looks really wet, like it was drinking some coolant wet. Put new inner head oring on when you put her back together.

It appears that it is running lean on one side, you'll need to get that figured before you hold it at sustained high RPM's pulling the long hills. Bad plugs would have left the lean side looking wet. The 15 lbs compression is just out if the normal tolerance, check it again once you have it together. As mentioned, a bad o-ring could cause the difference and you could be getting some coolant crossover. Did you notice a different colour to the exhaust?

The other question that needs to be answered is why it overheated when it was idling outisde your shop. It shouldn't do that under normal conditions.

I'd pull the power valves and look right at the exhaust side of the piston. If there is a problem the piston will be scuffed. Your sled should have a 1 year AC warranty bumper to bumper plus another year with a 50 dollar deductible. Any dealer can tell you if you give them your vin number.
