2008 M1000 BD RACE GAS TURBO UPDATES

I just bought a very clean 2008 M1000 with the Boondockers Race gas turbo on it with no Boondockers up dates done to it.
I took it out for a very short ride at rabbit ears to get a baseline on its set up.
I would rate it 6.5 out of 10 as it is right now. It was set up to run on 110 race gas but it has LL100 in it. It ran bad on the bottem end, and a bad lean bog when you hamer the gas and it pulled like a pump gas turbo M8 with about 6lbs of boost on the top end. (and boost turned all the way down on the M1000)
I will update this post as im doing all the BD updates that I plan to put on it. All updates will be less then $1000 and thats with no oil tank or smaller inercooler updates.
Heres a list of updates that myself and boondockers have come up with that should bring my M1000 to a pull and go sled with 260+ HP at about 10lbs of boost and 50/50 pump gas and RG (That HP# is a guess form talking with guys and BD)
NEW LIST
High out put in tank fuel pump and take the stock in tank and in line pumps off it, deleting the pop of valve from the inercooler, (dont need one if running the boost under 15lbs) air temperature sensor update into the inercooler, wire harnes update to air box injectors, Wastegate Controller, Doondocker box reflash, and fan for the inercooler. with just a wide band o2 sensor gage for engine monitoring. The clutching will be the last thing I deal with.
Right now it has a 4 tower drive clutch on it.
I think this will bring the sled to a nice 9 out of 10.

1st update from me.
I took the sled all apart and found a couple little things that were wrong,
#1 boost gage had the line pulled out of T-fiting (so it was bleading boost and the T-fiting was mounted right next to the boost sensor so that didnt help)

#2 found water droplets in all 4 fuel injectors wire connectors (no dielectric grease was used at all)

#3 found wires that had been rubbing between the air box, oil tank and fuel lines. But thats fixed with the high output fuel pump, there will be a lot less fuel lines running around down there.

The rest of the kit was in there OK. It looked like someone just zip tied the BD box wires to anything they could find, over time the wires would have been yanked on or worn the wire insulation off.
The reeds and pistons look like new.

Im very glad Im updating this sled with boondockers, Pete over there has taken the time to talk to me, Email me, call me back and the techs to make sure this sled can be a bench mark for other BD M1000s that are out there that need updates.
I will post more info as parts come in.
And feel free to ask me about something if you think Im leaving something out.

Glad to see you are sticking with the BD. When you get it tuned, they run fantastic! If they aren't already done, maybe consider getting your cylinders decked and ported by Linderman. I ride BD PG M1000 turbo and a few of my buddies are running BD turbos on the M8 sleds. They all run GREAT!

List looks good, however I would strongly advise against deleting your blow off valve I rode a buddies aerocharged skidoo last year at about 10 lbs of boost and the turbo run on was down right scary, I know it is not apples to apples but i know when i am running 12ish lbs on my cat my BOV is going off all the time

I could see that happening on a ski doo sents its has crabs on it that will alow fuel to keep flowing into the engine but with an EFI Cat it will cut the fuel and there should be no run on (AKA the sled keeps going after you let off the throttle) I did think about that when I was told I can take the POV off but I will give it a chance with all the updates.

There is still residual gas/air left in the crank case and throttle bodies so under pressure it can still force some into the engine and run on can happen with efi just not as bad. Why does twisted run one on pg kits and I thought everyone ran them on rg kits.

There is still residual gas/air left in the crank case and throttle bodies so run on can happen with efi. The twisted pump gas kits run a BOV, i think they are the only ones that do on pg, yet they are the type to remove stuff when not needed???? makes me wonder. I would run the BOV.

Blow-offs release the pressure in the charge tube and intake tract. Whats left on the engine side of the throttle bodies has no effect on or from the blow-off. It is merely there to help keep the turbo spinning forward and not stalled.
Boondockers theory is that these sleds are not producing enough pressure at what most people are riding at so the blow-off is actually hurting the throttle response.........

You done yet, want to here if it runs at a 9 on your arse scale.
The comment about the pop off was a question not saying twisted is the chit just don't know why they run one and no one else that I know of does on a pg, and I thought every one runs them on rg kits. So we got bd's answer it would be nice to know what others think and if anyone else has removed it and what they thought after words.

I took apart the GREDDY pop off valve that came stock with the BD kit and not that it should have made a difference in the way the sled ran. It was full of rust that came from the springs. I would have to think that if you have one that has a lot of time on it I could see someone having troubles with there pop off valve not holding purssure. As for updates on my sled. I will be replacing the boost pressure sensor that has a barbed fitting on it and replacing it with a new one that scerws into the air box or the incooler. Im sure it will be in the air box, but I need to make sure theres room for it. Its a tight fit down in there when every thing is in place.

All my new parts should have been shipped out today! With help from Eric at Vohk Performance in Colorado. it came to my attention That My sled had a bad center section in the turbo. So getting the sled 100% will cost me a little more But im still happy Im sticking with Boondockers. All the guys over there have help in one way or another to get this sled running right. But Pete Did the most, He stayed late at work to make sure he was doing every thing he could to help.
I would think the parts should be here Monday or Tuesday and cant wait to Do wheelies with the sled.

PS I had to ride a 08 XP 800 ski dont last weekend, the engine was a good runner But damn the thing was a POS to ride. Trying to side hill that thing was no fun at all, it was just hard work.

Well I should update this post and I will just write now (I told you so) so you dont have to.

So the parts I ordered last week came in last Sat. and I opened the box and go through everything, and I was sent what looked to be a driven spring out of a team roller clutch, well if i didnt know what i was looking at I might have put that spring in the clutch not knowing any better. It would have fit on the dulten helix I bought but not down in the outter clutch sheev. So I say this again. If I didnt know any better I would have tried to run that spring.

So then I go on to putting my turbo together. I got a new center section (a M1000 is a 3071, 30 being the turbine wheel the 71 being the compresor wheel)
Well I get it all together and look into the exhaust side of the turbo and the tubine wheel is not even close to being big enough and If i didnt know what I was looking at again i would never have known something was wrong. So I look at the Box the sentor section came in and it looked like a 2nd grader wrote 3071 with a sharpie on the box. Well then I run the bar code #s on the box and it comes up as a 2871. Thats a centor section that an 8m runs I guess and i looked up the code #s on the centor section and BD sent me a 2871 turbo. I bet my sled would have ran like crap with that set up.
So I call Pete at BD Mon. morning and he did the best to make things right.
The spring was wrong, so now I was told to go back to the stock AC orange spring and that they would send out the right sentor section. I said that would be nice and then I added a couple more things to the order. Them being 9 volt jumper and a new Boost actuator bracket.
So this is the part where this gets good! So at this point I get charged $900+ for the right centor section and the box gets sent out to me. I did have $900+ extra in the acount but these days a lot of people dont. that could have been bad for a lot of guys. So today I get the Box with the right parts in it and I bet that Same 2nd grader that was leaning to write the #s on the 1st box must have packed this box with Very very little packing in the box and sentor section and the steal Bracket just bounced around in the box beat the **** out of the compresor wheel. Like I said VERY VERY little packing in the box.
as of tonight I still dont have the $900 back.
So now you have been updated :)

why I use a bov on all my kits is that when you chop throttle and the boost stalls the compressor it tends to wear the seals out in the turbo and oil starts to go everywear.
