Questions?

What is the stock horse power, can't find that **** anywhere, everyone wants to say that the M8 has 160, but no one will tell me what the HP is on that sled?

Reliablity Stock?
If I just wanted to put a pipe or can and air box on it, is it going to melt down?

What are the *****es, moans complaints ect?

Weight compaired to the M8? Is the power worth it?

PLEASE BE HONEST, need to make a decision quick

I think the 1k was rated at 160hp stock. And I beleive the '08 M8 was rated at around 140hp?

I have an '08 M1k SP 153, I like it alot and love the power of the 1k! It is heavier than the 8, but not sure exactly by how much. You mainly feel the weight in the steering while going slow. But to me, it is not an un-manageable amount of weight, and while on the gas, It carves and handles like a dream!

Some M1k' do have some issues with factory tunning that affects the way the sled runs, but it seems to be kind of hit and miss, and not too sure if anyone knows what the cause is?

The engine is durable and can handle mods, but you will probably have to run some sort of tuner if you want to run multiple mods.

SO I'm confused, it weights more than the current M8, but has the same amount of power?

It is fairly reliable, yes? I can put a can on it no worries yes?

Will I like it better than my first generation M7? Does it carve as well and feel as light?

I know that after talking to my dealer, and looking at SLP's product information, I can put an entire pipe kit on my 2007 M8 without putting a fuel control box (boondocker, attitude) on it. The site states that this pipe (2007 - 2009 models) are compatible with this pipe kit with the stock ECU. I cannot say what the limitations are for the 2010 M8 because there is no information on the site for their 800 pipe kit for the 2010 models. You might want to call SLP first to ask them about the entire kit. I'm almost one hundred percent sure after reading on here that you would be able to put a can on no problem.

For their 2007-2009 M1000 pipe kit, they say a fuel adjuster is needed, again I don't know for the 2010 models because the information is not stated in the specifications, but I assume you would need one.

I should say that there are people on here that recommend a fuel adjuster after putting the pipe kit on, but I'm going to trust the manufacturer and my local dealer, he states it's money well spent for the extra hp. In the process of installing mine at the present time.

I believe I have also read the stock HP on the 2010 M8 models is 160-162. And ofcourse the M1000 is going to be more HP's, with a little more weight as well, 5-15 lbs. (That's after reading the specs on older arctic models comparing weights from 800's to 1000's. But the power IMO would be well worth, can't tell you much for the reliability of each of these sleds because the season hasn't even started yet for these sleds in my area, so I haven't heard anything. Hope this answers a few of your questions, I'm a rookie as well in the mountain sled scene, but I'm learning as much as I can every day, and this site sure helps!

the motor alone on the m1 is 19.5 lbs heavier than the 2010 m8. if all you want to do is put on a can then get the 2010 m8. stock hp on the m1 is 165-167hp(seen dyno in magazine) and the 2010 m8 is 155-160hp. If you compared the 2010 m8 and m1 with a can only the m8 is going to be a better sled. but the m1 is going to make way more power with full aftermarket pipe.

I would buy a 09 m1000 for $2000 more than I would pay for a 08 m1000. they are that much better.

I had 2 06 M7's. Now I have 08 M1000. It's a bit heavier but the extra hp's make up for it! WAY MORE POWER!!! Also a guy I know had a 07 M1000 and piped it (local dealer said he didnt need a fuel box) and yep, he lost the motor! So why take chances, if you pipe it, run a box, DUH!
