2008 700 Dragon RMK 155 Set-up

Planning to go to Island Park the end of February and wanted to get some thoughts on what to run for clutching? Sled is pretty much stock but it does have a can on it. We are planning to run 90% of the time between 6,000 to 9,000 ft. I know these sled's clutching was off some right from Polaris so any input on what to run would be greatly appreciated.

THANKS!

You do not need to change the clutching. Make sure you have new springs in both clutches weights are in good shape. new belt and everything is clean. put a derlin washer under the secondary spring cup. The 700 came with a good clutching setup and really no need to change it. You may want to change the gearing it came with a 20 tooth top gear and you can put a 18 or 19 in.

I ride at lower elevation so I can't help you with clutching set-up but, I would really recommend changing your stock gearing from 20/41 (74 pitch chain) to 19/42 with stock 74 pitch chain. For me I noticed much better pick up, especially on the low end and it's an inexpensive upgrade. I do not recommend a 18 on top, it's to tight of an angle and you would have to go with a 40 on the bottom and a new 72 pitch chain.

What weights are you running now? You can probably get away with 60's depending on how it's running. 58's if you're going to be up at 9000' for any length of time.

From all the suggestions I will give the 19 top 42 bottom gears a try. As far as clutching I have heard to run a blue/pink spring and 58 gram weights on the primary. Does this sound like a good suggestions or is there a better combo to try? As far as the secondary I am still looking for options so please let me know what others are running. Once again thanks for all the help!!!

Picked up the 19/42 gearing this afternoon and plan to install this weekend. I am also going to F-Bomb the track. Any other suggestions for the Island Park set-up would be greatly appreciated! THANKS!

Clutching

I ride a 2009 Polaris RMK 700 155 in the Island Park/West area. I have had mine to West four times. Below is what I did prior to the first trip.

Arrive with clean clutches, good belt and fresh stock clutch springs. Derlin washer in the secondary. All good. Gearing down 1 tooth on top and up 1 on the bottom is also good. Check motor mounts and clutch alignment. Ensure power valves are clean.

I would arrive with 10-58s in the primary. And have 10-60s and tools in the truck. On the first day, watch RPMs on pulls to determine if you have the RPMs to move up to 10-60s.

On my first trip I arrived with 10-60s, but could not hold RPMS. I talked to the service/parts staff at Polaris West and this was not unusual. Put in 10-58s and was good. By the way Polaris weights run heavy.

Good luck!

Thanks Bgs! What you described is pretty much what my plan is. I am a bigger guy so I figured I would be safe to start at the 58's to see how the sled pulls. I sent my clutches out to be serviced and balanced so they should be ready to go and function well. I did picked up some stock clutch springs and new 58 & 60 weights so that I would have all new clutching and not have to worry about that part. I also drop the gearing to 19/42 as others suggested.

So what RPM range did you run at and want to see? I need a little expertise since this will be the first trip for the 2008 Dragon 700. I upgraded from a 2005 RMK 800 and was use to running that motor and chassis so any suggestions would be very appreciated. THANKS!

Good Luck

I believe Polaris says 8250 +/- 200 for RPM. I like to be in the 8050-8200 range when climbing.

Good luck, post your results when your trip is over. I will be in West 2/7, riding for four days. Looks like they are getting a few days of snow to erase the tracks.
